German FLOSS developers often find themselves in a situation where they “need a non-profit association for the project, because of trademarks or event management or maintenance ...”. In most cases, they choose a purpose that has nothing to do with the development of free and open source software. Simply because there is no FLOSS development on the positive list for registration as a non-profit association.

We have been working hard to convince the tax authorities to add the development of Floss to the list. So far without success.

Now a new petition has been launched. If you believe that the development of free and open source software should be part of the positive list for registering a non-profit organization, sign here ->

Orgs can change their charter after registration.

Is it not possible to have a FOSS holding org for all FOSS projects until this is resolved?

Similar to the FSF in US.
