Does anyone have any recommendations on solid resources to get proficient at creating Wordpress sites? I know how to stumble my way through it, but I'd like to get better as i'm considering starting a small side business building, securing, and maintaining websites for some local businesses. Has anyone made this a viable business? If so any recommendations? I just want to do it for some local businesses I know of that are in sore need of some web facing information and would benefit from basic cybersecurity.

Hostely, the best cybersecurity advice I can give you in this case is : don't use Wordpress ^^

OK, I am half-trolling here, but more seriously, wordpress is so used that it's a very recurring target for cyber threats (in addition to having an old legacy codebase, which makes it harder to secure). If you don't have a very good reason to use wordpress and not something else, you should take a look at the other options. I heard good things about Ghost for example.

@mehdi Yeah WordPress is targeted frequently for sure. I think there are ways to harden it relatively speaking but it is a risk. I do think its similar though to "not using windows" because windows is so ubiquitous that tons of malware devs write for windows systems. I will check out Ghost though. Thank you.

I felt the same way.. stumbling through the options which got pretty frustrating.

Then I decided to do some research like do with my other technologies, and after a while came up with a guide that can get a beautiful website up and running in about 10 minutes or less once you know what to do.

It's a new way to look at WP for sure.

            If interested, send a DM.

              Tell us all! 🙂

I've used WordPress for years. I use as few plugins as possible and ALWAYS install WordFence which seems to easily block the majority of attacks.

Saying that, I am in the process of migrating some of my sites to Ghost because I like how it does subscriptions and newsletters.

I use Cloudron with Gandi & Hetzner

@Mastadamus a good starting point is to visit one of the many WordCamps -> https://central.wordcamp.org/
