https://hostyoself.com bit of a meme, but useful for self hosting an ngrok type web based instance.

A hosting service from the browser, because why not.

@robi I'm upvoting mostly for their amusing FAQ 😄

I use Cloudron with Gandi & Hetzner

@robi How do I start web hosting? You will need to setup port forwarding, a dynamic DNS, name registration, MySQL, PHP, Apache and take a online course in Javascript.

Just kidding! You don't need any of that crap. Just drag and drop a folder, or select a file. That's literally it. Now you can host a website from your laptop or your phone or your smartwatch or your toaster.

          LOL

Is this not just like surfer tho?

Still gets my upvote for the meme value +1

@plusone-nick It's different because it proxies outside connections to whatever browser you have open to the "console" part of the script.

So you open your browser, select a folder, and this website serves that data via a proxy. You have to keep the website open for it to work.

Or that's how it's explained anyway. Very different from surfer (where you upload files/folders and then you can close the browser.)

@murgero makes sense, looking into it more - they referenced the Beaker Browser as being similar 💡
I like it even more now lol

@robi This would be cool to have if it wasn't 2 years out of date... Though IDK what kinda security risk this would have, if any, for being out of date. I'd be happy to fork and update as needed if someone made the cloudron app.

@murgero For what it's doing, temporarily, I'm not worried about the risks as much, plus we have Cloudron container security.

It should be an easy package as a Go lang app.

Thanks for the willingness to bring it up to date! 🙏

@murgero That would be fantastic if you could do that. Thank you for offering.
