A lot of services (here bitwarden as an example) use the favicon of the top level domain to visualize the item.

From what I understand, the graphics like the favicon are just statically served which means exposing their location in the file viewer would let me enable to change the favicon to the one I'm using on the main domain. Is that correct?

This needs to be reported upstream. The favicon is hardcoded in a whole bunch of places (and different sizes as well). They can add/remove sizes , change filenames etc. Without upstream supporting this, exposing this is bound to break on some update at some point.
