Add new App notifications
-
I keep getting surprised about new apps with mixed feelings.
-
On one hand it's a joy and delight, like opening a present.
-
On the other, it's a frustration of being in the dark, that I didn't get a notification to be aware of a new capability that we could have used.
I suspect adding something for 2. will increase App usage and testing.
Not sure what the best approach is, since I can't be on the forum daily, or even log into a cloudron daily. It just works which is great, but also falls out of awareness.
Emails might be too much, but a decent prompt to go check things.
A note in the notifications area in Cloudron works well when keeping an eye on things.
@appdev Has anyone extended these notifications to an App that can send a mobile notification?

The appstore view in the Cloudron dashboard already has a "New Apps" button to show them, given the rate we add new apps they remain in that category for quite some time. So unless we want to push that information with like an email, you might just check-in every now and then there.

@robi they always get announced here too https://forum.cloudron.io/category/1/announcements so another option would be to just subscribe to that category? (either here on NodeBB or via RSS)
-
@jdaviescoates I already watch it.. but that doesn't solve the awareness issue.
There is not NodeBB mobile app that can notify me in that case.
RSS would be an option, but not sure what app to use for only this?
Was expecting a Cloudron level option.

@lonk no, monthly doesn't make sense apart from an email, like the new Cloudron release emails.
Weekly maybe, but ideally the day it is released.
From there those interested in those can subscribe to the stable Apps or unstable Apps notifications.

I like that. Opting into app updates without having them installed. Often times user's don't want to be the early adopters (I do, but I'm me ) so they wouldn't install anything initially, and getting release notifications even though the app isn't installed might eventually prompt them to. It's not even too difficult a change since it already exists for installed apps.
