Anyone actually using Radicale ?

Seeking to de-google and even reduce use of apple eco-system
Need a private calendar server : mostly using ProtonCalendar but looking to reduce lock-in if i don't renew next year
Nothing much gets discussed about Radicale : is it so flawless there is no need, or no-one really uses it ?
What clients do people use to read entries ?

@timconsidine I use it for personal use, it is a bit minimalistic since it has no addressbook or calendaring user interface as such, but works great with Thunderbird and Davdroid.

I was heavy into Radicale for a long time, but have recently moved back to iCloud for that stuff for me because it's just far faster to sync to all my devices. With Radicale, I find it would often take my Reminders app or Calendar app upwards of 20 seconds (usually closer to 8 seconds though) to actually sync, and if I made a change and quickly closed off the app on macOS for example, it's never be seen because it never made it to the server yet. Caused me too many headaches after a while. Once day I may revisit it again, but for me it's not quite quick enough yet.
FWIW, I presume part of it is how many records you have to sync, and in my case I had well over 1400 contact records, a few hundred reminders (mostly because checked-off ones don't auto-delete), and probably a few thousand calendar records too, so maybe I was pushing it a bit, not too sure.

@staypath yes contacts always worked well for me too, it was pretty much the reminders that was the most inconvenient to me and calendar to some degree as well but reminders I use heavily and that’s where I noticed the performance issue the most.

@timconsidine Will Radicale push updates to a calendar event or will people subscribing be left with the old data?
-
@loudlemur no idea, sorry : not explored it very far.

@timconsidine I had a quick check and it doesn't seem to do that push notification thing.
