It would be really nice to have database only apps in cloudron, useful for developers who need a cloud-based database to connect to from the local dev env or from their hosted app (vercel, netlify)

Example SAAS providers of such a feature are railway.app and planetscale.com

any ideas on how best to achieve now? and if feature might be on the roadmap for a future version of cloudron?

@chris +1, this is exactly what I'd like to see next on Cloudron 🙂

I think we need the Wireguard VPN apps first, so we can securely connect to the the private DBs.

Btw, you can already use the DBs that other apps use, such as LAMP.

Once the App is running you can find the connection info in the output App terminal env command.

@robi yes LAMP has been what i;ve been using when I need a remote MySQL db, but its not ideal, I don't need the apache and PHP part of LAMP, and ideally I have the option of DB type (postgress, mongo, MySQL..) but yes, this is a solution "for now"

I think this is a great idea to add such databases as "apps", those probably are unrelated then to the db services which run on the Cloudron already to give more version flexibility. Maybe we can start collecting the various databases as normal app request in the forum to see which ones to target first?

@nebulon said in Simple Database Only Apps (Mysql, Postgress, Redis, MongoDB...):

There's only a handful, just do them all, no?

While I agree with @robi , just do them all I created an app request for a few individual ones: MySQL , Postgres, and MongoDB to help move the ball
