What I meant with other reasons: https://www.spacebar.news/p/stop-using-brave-browser

    Reasons cited are that

    • the author doesn't like Brave's CEO (who, notably, invented Javascript and co-founded Mozilla) because of donations in 2008-2010 to to California Proposition 8, which called for the banning of same-sex marriage in California. Ok, that's bad, but not outrageously, this-company-has-to-be-banned-in-2023 bad. Start digging into the personal background of leaders in your favorite companies and you will find something that will create outrage on the interwebs.
    • Brave received - moderate amounts of - funding from a Peter Thiel fund - so have Airbnb, Lyft, SpaceX, Spotify, Stripe etc.
    • Brave has a financing model using cryptocurrency - and somehow Brave is therefore as scammy as the worst crypto-scammers in the history of the world. Ok.
    • Brave had for a few days inserted referral id's into links to binance - not nice, but removed quickly and apologized.

The out-of-the-box experience with Brave is just nice, IMHO. It's something I can recommend to a non-techie friend and they will have a good experience without having to install a gazillion of add-ons.

@necrevistonnezr I think that starting the Mozilla project is a brilliant recommendation for somebody. I think he left because Mozilla became a captured institution and couldn't stand seeing what was happening to his own creation.

I couldn't see the licence for Iron browser.

@necrevistonnezr I just wanted to add information to my statement "which you might not want to use for other reasons", which I posted earlier (I didn't have the link at hand when I wrote the original post). This post, together with this blog post: https://www.kuketz-blog.de/brave-datensendeverhalten-android-app-browser-check-teil23/ and my personal preference to prevent making the World Wide Web a Chromium-only service makes me want something different. If you are fine with Brave, go ahead and use it! That's perfectly fine for me as well, especially because it's a much better choice than Chrome when it comes to tracking of web-sites.

This thread is as much off-topic as it could be 😉
I propose we close this discussion (which has taken place on the Internet for so many times already).

I use Firefox for daily use and have brave as a backup. I’ve used opera in the past and i liked it, but i don’t know its tech background. Any cons about Opera?

Btw, brave on ios is great for blocking ads on YouTube. You can also play videos in the background and in offline mode too. A feature i miss from when i had android.

Firefox (only browser that can handle hundreds of tabs for me, PWA extension is useful, too), and Vivaldi (useful for creating webapps) for me.

Same no problems, loving the updates, but we did notice a slowdown of apps starting when restarting the server.

It took a full 10-20 minutes for all apps to start, and even though they said started we got the error stating "This app is currently not responding. Please try refreshing the page in a few minutes.", we upgraded the server to see if it would help to go from a 4 CPU and 8 GB RAM to 8 CPU Premium Server with 16GB RAM, and still had the same issue.

@mhgcic this is a one time delay because the update also recreates all the containers and upgrades databases.

@girish I tried this after a new server changed to mounts, still had the same issue.

Just to verify, it was not isolated to the restart after Cloudron upgrade, but any time I restart the server.

                    Update:

I just did a restart again, and it still 10-20 minuets for the app to show, even though it says running.

@mhgcic as far as I can see with your last screenshot, you're running many instances of high RAM and CPU needed apps, for only a 8CPU and 16 GB of RAM. Are you running this on a VPS on top of that? I'd strongly suggest you use a dedicated server for the kind of apps you want to run. Might have been okay for a while, but resources needs increases with usage.

Ignorance is not an excuse anymore!

I doubt somehow it is a low-resource issue. The only one that is on the boarder of being high is RAM. I could increase the RAM to see if that helps.

@girish Sorry no, that is unrelated to this.

I found the startup delay when making changes to volumes on the server.

Usually the disk is the limiting speed in all this. Then comes RAM and then CPU. What is the disk speed ? (It's in the System page in the graphs)

Regardless if it is what's causing the issues you're currently facing, I'd definitely get more RAM if I were you.

Each instance of Mastodon needs at least 1.5GB and each instance of Discourse at least 2GB. Already that is at least 10.5GB RAM you need before you've included all your other apps plus Cloudron and Ubuntu themselves.

And these are bare minimums. If you have users actually actively using these apps they'll need more.

I use Cloudron with Gandi & Hetzner

I could increase the RAM to see if that helps.

One reason to love SSDnodes is their generous amounts of RAM.

You can also restart a single app and just time how much time it takes to restart it. Maybe try something which is not discourse. Discourse takes notoriously long to restart since it has to compile assets and also it's a rails app.

I've read too many negative reviews (on here and elsewhere) about SSDnodes to be interested in using them. In my view "too good to be true" pricing is basically exactly that, i.e. too good to be true. There are loads of posts on here with people having issues with them (although admittedly also others that seem to be very happy with them)

My plan is to move to a dedicated Hetzner server like this one https://www.hetzner.com/dedicated-rootserver/ax41-nvme which comes with 64GB RAM that isn't shared or using any virtualization.

I use Cloudron with Gandi & Hetzner
