I thinking of moving my Nextcloud and Surfer data to custom directories (mounted ext4 hetzner volumes).

I'm just wondering, is data stored on Custom Data Directory included in Cloudron app backups, or not?

      Thanks!

I use Cloudron with Gandi & Hetzner

I'm not hugely savvy with this stuff but have set up VPS instances on Digital Ocean many times and followed lots of instructions etc. So I feel fine about getting set up with Nextcloud on a server I'm renting from Hertzner. I'm just stressing about how much of the time it is likely to crash or go wrong - when this stuff happens at the moment I just email tech support at Dropbox. Very ready to leave them behind but also can't afford to not have access to my data.

@beenmeckel Yes, having external backups is crucial. At the very minimum, be sure to have backup set up to a DO Block Storage device or DO Spaces. Personally, I back up to a completely different cloud provider only to prevent the case that I get locked out of one provider.

I've got all my Cloudron stuff running on Hetzner and so far nothing had ever crashed nor gone wrong.

Also the data on their volumes is triple replicated too.

But yes, also looking into how to backup me backups elsewhere too...
