    Probably quite a few people here will use Nextcloud and sync data from their laptop. Has anyone ever experienced data loss in the process? More specifically, I had a sync error in the last two days for one folder that I didn't realise. Now it suddenly cleared up - however, all my local data got overwritten with the 2-days-old version.

    And the worst thing is: This is not the first time this has happened.
    (and this is not cloudron-related, but a problem with the sync algorithm they use)

    I kind of lost trust now into Nextloud sync now and I am looking into other solutions. Basically, I would like to have a copy of my files accessible in the cloud.
    I think I could use syncthing, but I am not really sure where I would want to sync my files to for both availability in the browser somewhere and backup.

    If I don't find a solution, I might need to go back to Google Drive ...

      I never use the nextcloud sync client since it only causes problems.

          @ekevu123 Have you reported this as a bug report or in the Nextcloud forum?

            @ekevu123 I upload my stuff manually 😬
            The Nextcloud sync client has been "strange" for more than 5 years, and I lost faith that it will ever be excellent.

            There is always a strange "gap" between local "synced" files and remote files and has been reported over and over again on github and the forum.
            At least the picture instant upload from the phone is working.

            Like my work? Consider donating a drink. Cheers!

              @necrevistonnezr said in Nextcloud data loss?:

              @ekevu123 Have you reported this as a bug report or in the Nextcloud forum?

              No, I am not active there, but I found other instances where it happened, so the bug is mapped at least.

              I am looking for alternatives now.

                Just for the purpose of documentation, if someone finds this: As an alternative to Nextcloud, I have decided to use Radicale for Calendar and Contact synchronisation and Syncthing for files, where I sync these with versioning to an HDD volume attached to the server. Now I am still looking into how to implement an external backup of the volume once per day, probably I will use rclone or something similar with a cron job and sync to another provider.
                So far, this works, and the GUI for volumes in Cloudron gives me a graphical interface for my files in the cloud anyway if I want to, just without the possibility to open them in an editor.
