I don't think Akaunting (nor any other open source web accounting software I'm aware of) will automatically import bank feeds etc either

    Paid plugin will https://akaunting.com/apps/bank-feeds

@jdaviescoates I'm using FreeAgent too - free if you are with Natwest !

Very happy with Quickfile too - written by / for accountants, but good for business too.

I like Hledger also ... but it's quite hard-core - accounting with text files ! And of course no VAT submission options.

Taxcalc is great for CoHouse/HMRC submissions : not cheap, but top notch. Written for accountants so really good (if you know what you're doing !)

Shame about Akaunting but if FreeAgent start charging me, I might give it a go.

What is the current status of Akaunting? I tried installing it in a LAMP stack but that doesn't seem to work

So I have been trying to install akaunting within a LAMP stack with limited success. There is an error during installation, but it runs fairly normal after that. However, some plugins don't work properly and updating via GUI/CLI doesn't work. Support narrowed it down to the path of the PHP executable not being correct and gave me this link: https://akaunting.com/hc/docs/faq/i-cant-install-apps/

I would like to try this out by changing the PHP path in the env as described in the documentation:
          APP_PHP_PATH="/usr/bin/php8.0"

@girish Could you help me with this? Is it /etc/php/8.1?

I guess this is an Akaunting variable ? If so, this would be /usr/bin/php8.1 in the lamp app.

@andreasdueren Great to hear! If you get the chance to share the process you've followed that'd be much appreciated.

Also do you think some of your work might get us closer to get a Cloudron package for it?

Tried to upvote this post but wasn't allowed to, so commenting instead. Seconding this request, Akaunting would be an excellent addition to the Cloudron store, please add!

Hello all, so it seem there was some effort into packaging this from @andreasdueren as well as from @murgero, @marcusquinn and from the author of Akounting with @staff (see this thread).

Anyone got any update on this?

Small business accounting is still a type of software lacking on Cloudron which is a shame as it could really help the adoption of a Free Software alternative to QuickBook, Xero, etc amongst small businesses and ethically minded accountants.

@avatar1024 To be honest, I tried using Akaunting for a few months and even purchased expensive plugins – full of excitement. But I quickly realized that the software is quite buggy and support unwilling or unable to help in any significant capacity. Even when I payed for extra support, they were not able to help me resolve some issues. So I abandoned it. So personally I am not interested in Akaunting anymore.

@avatar1024 It's extremely barebones without the payed plugins. EDIT: never mind, thought you were talking about Akaunting. QuickFile is not free, no.

@avatar1024 It's SaaS, so not open-source, but you can do a LOT indefinitely with the free tier, and it is very good, in my opinion, and easy to share access with accountants.

I WISH there was something as good open-source, but never found anything as good, so I just stick with this.

Maybe Odoo is another option for you, but I was just throwing Quickfile in there as an option for you to compare in your research.

@avatar1024 It's extremely barebones without the payed plugins. EDIT: never mind, thought you were talking about Akaunting. QuickFile is not free, no.

@andreasdueren Quickfile is "free" for most lower transaction needs, which covers most small businesses, and extremely cheap compared to Quickbooks/Xero/Freshbooks if you need higher volume usage.

Of course, you know I'm an open-source fan, and I know this isn't open-source.

I'm just saying it is a free option, and it is very cheap if you do need the paid features.

Because they email your data as a zip regularly, too, your data is a bit safer from reliance on a SaaS.

It's just an option I think people will benefit from knowing in comparison, and free to try indefinitely.

I'm not selling it. Just sharing experience, since open-source is wonderful, but sometimes just doesn't offer what we need, so this is something that might be a next-best option to help out in the meantime.
