I have a requirement to use full disk encryption (FDE) on our cloudron system.

I have setup a 22.04 cloudron with FDE but it prompts for a password upon each reboot which is not sustainable for the environment it is deployed in.

Ubuntu 23.10 supports using the mother board's built in TPM for FDE.

Would cloudron run on 23.10 as best you know and/or do you know of tested means to use FDE with the current 22.04 ubuntu with the decryption key stored in the TPM and the drive automatically decrypted on boot?

We will only support Ubuntu LTS. So 24.04 whenever that is ready.

@girish Thanks for the quick reply, 👍.

In case anyone else needs this on 22.04, I followed these steps and was able to get the system to boot with full disk encrypted drive with the private key coming from the tpm and no password needing to be typed.

I don't think this uses the same libraries as the new option in 23.10 so I expect that when 24.04 comes out I will do a fresh OS install to use the better supported FDE TPM integration from that version going forward but as a stop gap I am happy with this for now.
