@privsec you suggested the same thing a year ago πŸ™‚ https://forum.cloudron.io/post/49425

And no, itβ€˜s not an alternative:

@necrevistonnezr Well I suppose as you say it was a year ago, maybe Jellyfin has got some way and improved what it was capable of?

Plex s very slick for sure, yet not Free Software and not as private.

I created a post in the Plex forum. 😁 Maybe the Plex staff will create a Cloudron App. 🀷

This model supports DLNA. I am building a cloudron plex app now, but in the meantime, try a DLNA server.

            Example: https://www.howtogeek.com/215400/how-to-turn-your-computer-into-a-dlna-media-server/

            @murgero Hi !
I apologize for contacting you 5 years later but I wanted to know if your Plex application project would succeed?

I installed Plex via Ubuntu, alongside Cloudron. It's perfect on a local network, but impossible to access it from the external internet network.

            Is help possible?

You cannot do this. It's not supported by Cloudron. Sadly my plex project has been dead for years πŸ˜• I'd recommend installing plex on another device or vps and using that for plex for now.

I just run plex server on my windows gaming PC, its accessible anywhere. And the gaming GPU makes transcoding a breeze. The storage is on a NAS with mapped drives. cloudron is on the same home network, but doesn't need to interact with it at all.

I dumped plex for jellyfin, considering the strange decision plex has made lately regarding sharing viewing history with other users, and other seemingly common issues I had (watched / unwatched data just resetting randomly)... Jellyfin (so far) is a better experience.

Plex although a very impressive application, is eroding what it once was.

Did anyone experience Jellyfin on Smart TVs? I had read that only the Plex native app on Smart TV (android) is decent.

Yeah I use it on mine. Works fine, but never used Plex so can't compare. So long as you've got a webOS (which afaict is the best os for smart tvs anyway) powered TV it's easy as there is a Jellyfin app.

I use Cloudron with Gandi & Hetzner

I've used both, jellyfin was useable, if at times a little clunky. plex is more polished however has its own tarnish added by the way the devs are pushing how you can use it.
Currently I'm running plex (wrongly) on the cloudron server, because despite having a GPU & working drivers in it, due to the way the docker system and jellyfin work together the performance was rubbish. One day I'll dedicate a different box to plex. I bought the lifetime license, so get all the niceities that seem more elusive on jellyfin.
I use a roku for one TV, and while my other smart TV (Sony) is much newer the built in app runs worse

@AartJansen I have the same setup - Plex on the same server as Cloudron. Since I only use it locally, it’s not connected to the web.

I'm using Jellyfin in Cloudron but I kept Plex outside, on a dedicated (seed)box, where it works fine and lives along many other seedbox-type services closely integrated with each other and which at least are not impacted by Cloudron updates, with way more bandwidth than I can allow myself on my Cloudron. Also I prefer to keep Plex/*arr/Torrent related stuff apart from my business stuff on Cloudron.
