I tried a couple of heic test files just now, and they seem to work fine here in immich. I don't have an Apple device to try to play with different settings there to maybe able to reproduce the issue. Are you able to share one such non-working image here so we can reproduce the issue to look into a fix?

@nebulon Hi there, Yep I can send you a sample HEIC file for sure. I don't have enough reputation to chat. Can you tell me how I can send you the HEIC file?

You can send the image to support@cloudron.io or attach it here in a message

@nebulon I tried emailing but an auto-reply said post in this forum. So, here's a sample file.

Well I was about to upload here and got an error :

          "Error
Input file has corrupt header: /tmp/Rsbm41-t9XXotPRbwc5G6grX.HEIC: bad seek to 2795524 heif: Invalid input: Unspecified: Too many auxiliary image references (2.0)"

So this is becoming quite frustrating just to give you a sample file? There's nothing wrong with the photo I'm trying to upload?

We are able to reproduce the issue with the provided HEIC files now. Will keep this updated with our findings here.

Turns out the libheif which ships with Ubuntu 24 is too old to support that HEIC flavor produce by those apple devices. We will see how we can patch some later library version into the package.

A new package with a patched libheif is out now. Here at least the sample photos we got work as expected now.

I'll check, fingers crossed! Thanks for this! 😉

Further to this, I just tested - It's fixed! Perfect. Thanks for the quick resolution.
