Hi,
After Nextcloud was forcefully migrated to OpenID Auth I had to re-authenticate everything on my devices and on computers.
Nextcloud Notes app on Android is unable to sync any changes made on a device to the cloud. I removed the account from Notes and re-added it back (I wasn't prompted to re-authenticate, I presume the app uses Nextcloud app for authentication purposes). Did this few times, restarting the devices. No luck.
I've also re-installed NextCloud and Notes apps multiple times from both GPlay and FDroid, nothing helped.
Nextcloud app itself is able to sync files from devices to the cloud.
Anyone seen this, knows how to resolve the issue?
This is extremely annoying as this seems to be related to the OpenID change which I couldn't care less about. I need stability in my cloud services.
Thanks.

@bazinga I've only just updated my main Nextcloud to OIDC (which I am actually pleased about as it's overall a better and more secure experience) so I'll presumably hit this too... which will be annoying as I use notes a lot too... I wonder does creating an app password within Nextcloud as per the guide for Calendars etc help? see https://forum.cloudron.io/topic/10067/guide-external-nextcloud-with-openid-social-login-calendar-caldav-synchronization

More secure? Well, that is if Cloudron's IdP is secure and everything is done to specification standards. Authentication isn't a walk in the park, that's why there is literally a tiny number of products out there that can be relied upon.
I've always used app passwords from Nextcloud for any Android apps (Notes, DavX, Nextcloud client). With OIDC my apps no longer could use those app passwords. I've checked the link you've referenced and it seems it's all about creating and using those passwords that Nextcloud manages.
I just tried to create a test app password in NextCloud - doesn't work, nothing happens like it did before. Clicking on that "Create new app password" button does nothing.
I'm very frustrated with this situation. I use Notes a lot. I was already dreading the experience of dealing with this Nextcloud auth integration change as I have to guide few family members half way across the globe on how to make all of the changes to NextCloud, DavX, Calendars, etc... And now this issue. Sigh.

You mean here at the bottom of
/settings/user/security
, right? If so, I'm not sure what's up for you, but I can confirm it's working for me...
...BUT I didn't actually need to create any app password for Notes to start syncing again (I did have to do that for DAV5x to get my Calendar and Contacts syncing again), all I had to do was to open up my Nextcloud Android app and login again to that and then the Notes app was syncing again.
Clearly something is not working properly with your Nextcloud. Can you share any logs?

I didn't say I had to do it now. I was doing it before. Then at some point the integration between NextCloud client and Notes app was added, so I probably switched to that. DavX, I think, was still using the app password.
Now - yes, log in with NextCloud android app, then Notes picks up the account automatically. Same with DavX. In both DavX and Notes I had to remove accounts first.
Notes now does initial sync, as I described in my first post above, but then no changes made in the Notes app (existing note, new note) get sync'd up to the cloud. There is a way no see Note's error report when that happens - shows a Java exception, but with hardly any details.
Unless NextCloud - Notes integration is completely broken (and I couldn't find any report of that online), this issue is related to OIDC change and whatever else in the NextCloud for Cloudron package.

After app passwords somehow started working, I've tried to again - delete all accounts on Android, create app password in NC and use my phone to connect via a QR code. NC client app connected. Then I've added an account in Notes app as before. No luck - still not able to sync any changes from a device to the cloud.

@bazinga I realised that mine only synced down once too, then it stopped working and wouldn't sync back up.
But I just cleared cache and deleted all data from both Nextcloud and Notes.
And then uninstalled and reinstalled Nextcloud from Fdroid.
And then logged into Nextcloud again with a new app pw
And then selected the account in Notes
And now sync is working for me again in both directions!
But I'm still on one version behind you....

I've re-installed Notes and NextCloud from both GPlay and FDroid multiple times already. Not sure if there is anything I'm missing, but I guess I'll know once you go through with the NC update.

Perhaps actually clearing the cache and deleting data helped?
I just had to do that with Talk to get that working again too. Didn't do a reinstall of either Notes nor Talk, just did the clear data and delete all data thing and now both working again (at least for now!)

Cleared data and cache the first time I re-installed the apps. Doing it again now to see if anything with the server restart changed for the apps too.
-
Cleared caches, uninstalled everything and re-installed. Notes still fails to sync up to the cloud.

That is very odd.
I've done the migration for a customer instance with 300 Users and for multiple weeks now we had to such reports.
What mobile OS are you using? There was a recent issue in the forum about app passwords not being generated and working because of Safari in iOS.
Sorry that it is so broken for you, that should not be. -

My update went smoothly and my Notes and Talk are still working.
I'm guessing you logged into the Nextcloud app with an app password too?

I spoke too soon.
Somewhat bizarrely, whilst the first quick tests I did this morning both worked fine, now they've both stopped working again.
And as far as I'm aware literally nothing has changed in the interim.

For me - it works for the initial sync, after that doesn't work - eg. Notes on my phone gets all 150+ notes entries/files, seems to be good. Go and edit one or create a new one and that starts throwing errors and never works.
Re-installing apps, clearing caches/storage/etc. doesn't help.
Using app passwords or using OIDC for NextCloud client (main app) auth doesn't make a difference.

I've got GrapheneOS on a Pixel Pro. I've messed around with various per-app security settings that GrapheneOS provides, but none of that helped.

sounds very much like a notes or nextcloud bug
Worked just fine before OIDC upgrade with Cloudron.
Considering I couldn't find any reports of similar nature unrelated to Cloudron's hosting of NextCloud the chances of it being just NC-Notes issue are even lower. Not impossible, of course, but I'd expect people report on issues like this. The issues reported over the past 6-12 months are all related to tokens or similar.

It's also not just Notes, it's Talk too afaict
