SFTP to LAMP

Hi there,
I have trouble logging in with SFTP, tested via different clients.- telnet is fine for connection,
- I used the user provided in the app section for SFTP,
- user is operator of the app,
- tested with standard user password and also with a additional setup application password,
Both times password was declined. I used the app password, as I thought MFA might interfere with the authentication?
Do you have any other suggestion, why SFTP fails here?
