As some of you may have noticed Hetzner has announced a consolidation of their consoles and in the future will operates it's DNS services under the regular server console.

But: The current Cloudron implementation of DNS Challenges does not work with the new API and therefore once you have transfered you have a major issue once your certificates run out. (And sadly that is not well documented by Hetzner and there are certain situations where you need to transfer immediately)
In theory manual adding should be possible, but is an issue for larger deployments of course.

    So: What to do now?

    Kind regards,
    Phil

      Update:
ACME seems to be having a solution for the issue already:

Ah, thanks for the heads up. You mean since they move from https://dns.hetzner.com/ to their unified https://console.hetzner.com ?

We have quite a few test domains at hetzner, hopefully we can reproduce and fix this easily also then.

For a start do not migrate any domains just yet. I migrated one of our test domains and yes the whole API changed and basically this is a like a new DNS provider now. We have to see how to workaround this, but that requires certainly a new Cloudron release (we will pack it into one of the first patch releases of Cloudron 9)

Anyways even Hetzner still marks that in the UI as beta, while also showing quite a motivating banner to move the zone over to the new system. Not ideal I would say.

If you have moved your domain already, then reconfigure it in Cloudron to use wildcard or manual for the moment until our backend is fixed/adjusted.

Is Hetzner not using https://dns.hetzner.com/api-docs#operation/GetRecords anymore ?

BTW: As temporary work around if someone has already did the switch:

                • Copy/Export the zone file in the new console.
                • Delete it in the new console
                • Import in the old console

That should work for now, but from November on it won't anymore. So be careful.

@joseph said in Hetzner: DNS Transfer to new Console:

Is Hetzner not using https://dns.hetzner.com/api-docs#operation/GetRecords anymore ?

A new API has been implemented and it has all been migrated to Hetzner Console.

The other thread is really about the old Hetzner DNS api, so fine to keep this thread.

As mentioned in the other, work is tracked at https://git.cloudron.io/platform/box/-/issues/860

The implementation is just finished, pending some more testing. But the API fairly easy so I don't expect much hiccups.

Amazing work. Do you need some testers? Did you try migrating from the old version to the new one.

I will add it to our e2e testing today so will be part of some 9 release. Otherwise it is a bit hard to test this on other Cloudrons.

The domain I have used was migrated from the old to the new hetzner DNS so that path seems to work fine.

We merged the change now for 9.0.4 so this is supported from next patch release on.
