@robi said in Alternatives to Cloudflare DNS with Cloudron?:

The answer is in all of us.

I'm curious what you mean by that.

Cloudflare has been fined in Italy and his CEO wrote a long post: https://xcancel.com/eastdakota/status/2009654937303896492

A specific part of his post (#2 and #3) make me felt little bit “unconfortable”, not because of Italy, of course, but this could happen for every country:

...we are considering the following actions: 1) discontinuing the millions of dollars in pro bono cyber security services we are providing the upcoming Milano-Cortina Olympics; 2) discontinuing Cloudflare’s Free cyber security services for any Italy-based users; 3) removing all servers from Italian cities; and 4) terminating all plans to build an Italian Cloudflare office or make any investments in the country.

The thought that, somewhere in the world, servers could be disconnected for non-technical reasons seems to me a risk I am not willing to take.

I don't want to get into the discussion itself, but I saw that almost all DNS providers are integrated into Cloudron.

I was wondering what alternatives to Cloudflare DNS you were using on Cloudron and which one you found not just good, but great, that supports different regions and geographical areas, with excellent performance and reliability, with several dozen production domains.

Free or payed I don’t care.

For Cloudflare DNS users, I would like to ask - if not for security and related services - why you were using it and if you were thinking of moving away from it, or what let you stay locked-in.

I tried to search old topics here but I didn’t find a good discussion, so... let’s discuss about 😉

@p44 I use Cloudns and never had a problem but appreciate it does not address any freedom issues

Custom apps available at CCAI https://ccai.appx.uk (ask if an app is not listed in the catalogue).

I've been using desec.io for a little bit now - it supposes/asks that you use DNSSEC to use their services, but so far I have nothing but only nice things to say about them. I suppose them being a not for profit company reduce the risks of unpleasant incentives. So far, strong recommend.

I'm using Bunny DNS which are EU based.
And it works like a charm with Cloudron

Thanks a lot. Let’s move forward and then see what happens... 😉 I think best feature I will miss from Cloudflare is the option to block AI bots and crawlers.

+1 Bunny. I already use their CDN services, so I get billed at $1/mo for it all.
