      We've got Moodle now - hooray! (and there's already a wishlist thread for Canvas LMS too)

      But of course ideally we'd have the ~top 3 apps from each category, so I'd love to see edX too!

      Installing and running an Open edX instance is not simple. We strongly recommend that you use a service provider to run the software for you. They have free trials that make it easy to get started: https://openedx.org/get-started/

      If you will be modifying edx-platform code, the Open edX Developer Stack is a Docker-based development environment.

      If you want to run your own Open edX server and have the technical skills to do so, Open edX Ubuntu 16.04 64-bit Installation has instructions to install it on an existing Ubuntu 16.04 server.

      I wonder if it even runs on 18.04 yet...

      Looks like it:

      Looks like they've even sorted 20.04 already too:

        It seems like I’m a sucker for ed related apps. I’ll try this once I have Canvas going unless someone else wants to. I saw this though and did a double take.

          Ah that is an all in one install that handles the db and more. Guess it might be a bit less than 8GB of RAM but that’s a tough minimum requirement

            According to my brother who is in education, this is the best platform.

              @ruihildt I find that it has more to do with your use case. Heck, for some schools using something like Blackboard Learn might be ideal with how polished the experience there is. I'd still go with Moodle personally for the customization. But because its so based on preference and use case having more options here is never a bad idea 🙂

                I agree about Moodle, and I'm a fan of having more choices in every category on the platform generally. Canvas is the leading alternative in terms of upvotes so far, and likely to arrive sooner. Worth taking a closer look - bit overwhelming to go in through Tutor itself - I'd advise anyone looking to go underneath that (massive) installer/abstraction and check out Open edX directly as a starting point. Just .02 from a cursory look; this isn't too high on my list yet, but I'll try to make a deeper evaluation of it soon.

                  @jimcavoli Thank you
                  I have it installed on a VPS by itself, so there's no "pressure" for it from me. It's just quite awesome and some may like it.
                  I wasn't thinking of Canvas - even though I saw that post !
                  Thanks for the reminder.

                    This dockerised version of edx called Tutor sounds interesting

                        I support this request. Having Tutor which is docker containerised Open edX is good as alternative for Moodle.

                          I agree, that would be a great addition to the platform. These 3 top apps address a market that will grow by leaps and bounds for the next few years.
