Open edX / Tutor : online courses (LMS)
-
Open edX :
Deliver inspiring learning experiences on any scale
Enable online campuses, instructor-led courses, degree programs, and self-paced courses using a single platform.
https://open.edx.orgTutor :
Tutor is the Docker-based Open edX distribution, both for production and local development. The goal of Tutor is to make it easy to deploy, customize, upgrade and scale Open edX. Tutor is reliable, fast, extensible, and it is already used by hundreds of Open edX platforms around the world.
https://docs.tutor.overhang.io/index.htmlI am not a fan of Moodle. Works but feels like it has the design and technology stack from 1680. So I was excited to find TUTOR which is an installer for OpenEdX. Looks much nicer for course creators and course takers.
Plus points :
- already dockerised with docker compose
- looks to layman like me that it could fit easily into Cloudron platform (famous last words)
Negative :
- it's HUGE. While the technical work of packaging it may be largely done, I became dizzy watching the 1 line install command (after installing docker and docker-compose) transform into streams of docker-compose steps and associated installs.
So while it might fit and a lot of packaging work already done, I don't know how viable it is to package for Cloudron.
It is certainly beyond my capabilities, but someone more expert can give an opinion on suitability for here. And being so large. maybe it deserves a VPS by itself for production use. But if we have Moodle here ....

I think this stuff about Tutor probably would've been better posted in the existing App wishlist thread for edX

@jdaviescoates yes, you're right.
Mea culpa.
I do a search prior to posting, but somehow I seem to miss things.
Apologies. -
@timconsidine perhaps @staff could move this thread into the other one.
