Access to the free and open Internet

Outline makes it easy to create a VPN server, giving anyone access to the free and open internet.

Run your own VPN and take control of your Internet traffic

Outline improves on the traditional VPN model by making it easy for anyone to create their own VPN.

Traditional VPNs are often easy to block because they are easy to detect.

When you use a VPN, your traffic is anonymous, but certain security protocols used by popular VPNS use unique cryptographic signatures that can be easily identified and blocked.

When you connect your device to a traditional VPN, your traffic is easy to detect because the volume of similar traffic makes it easy to find and block a server.

Outline works when other VPNs are blocked and is resistant to sophisticated forms of censorship like network-based blocking or IP blocking.

Outline is more resilient because it is built using a protocol that is designed to be difficult to detect and therefore harder to block.

Privately share access to your server with a trusted group of people. Fewer people connected to your server means it is harder to detect and easier to remain private.

@yusf Interesting! Although, I'd guess the open-source aspect might be some reassurance.

Added links to alts for comparison and further wishlist posts if anyone finds better:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I would still need to rent a VPS anonymously and hope that the host doesn't give in to every complaint they receive. Even so, I'm neither private nor untrackable since the user pool is small compared to major VPN providers, and I'll also be identified through fingerprinting and whatever black magic is being used nowadays. Other than security, is there a benefit to running your own VPN?

@humptydumpty yes, mostly for country related restrictions.

At the moment pirate VPNs are a terrible choice, because 1) not all servers are available, 2) the speed is severely cut due to the heavy load on free servers, it is easier and better to just buy a VPN, such as windscribe or browsec (if for a browser).

@humptydumpty Get a hotel room from a reasonably low-tech chain but in a high-speed internet city, pay cash, install a RasPi or Arduino in the back of the smart TV and throughput the ethernet. Install your VPN on that. 😂

NOTE: SATIRE! DO NOT DO THIS!
