I lost my VPS, it was destroyed, but I had backed up the cloudron before, can I recover my data somehow? Can I still have access to my account? Is it stored somewhere?

@hugoo_souza10 how did you configure your backup ? To a storage service ? Your backups should still be available.
Your Cloudron account should still be available.

Rent another VPS and Install Cloudron. During the setup process select "restore" at the bottom and specify your backup location. Not necessary to have the file that contains your backup config since you can manually enter the data. The Cloudron version you install has to match the one from your backup. See Restore Cloudron for documentation.

If you restore from a backup there is no need to log into your Cloudron account since your server should already be logged in. You can check your account by loggin in here.

Edit: btw I hope you did not missunderstood...your Cloudron server is NOT backed up in your account at cloudron.io. You also don't get access to your Dashboard/Email/etc. since it only exists on your server. For your server to be backed up, you have to specify a backup location and if you did not choose an external storage (provider) and used "local backup", all your stuff might be gone with the old VPS.

@subven I think it was only saved in the account 😞
I did a backup before but it was the whole server, my server was hosted on vultr. It wrecked my life.
I had made two levels of backup, one of the whole server, and another one inside the cloudron, but it wasn't locally.

@hugoo_souza10 what "account" are you talking about? Please specify where you want to login. As I said, cloudron.io does not store backups for you. Your Cloudron server might do local backups to it's own drive and your VPS provider might give you the option to take snapshots of your VPS but this is not a backup solution.

How can a server at vultr get lost? They have redundancy and backups to restore in case of total failure (desaster recovery). Do you still have access to your vultr account?

It should be, just creating a new server from that backup, because it's actually just a snapshot

If you have this two level backup as you proclaim, you should be able to either follow @MooCloud_Matt suggestion or the official restore doc: https://docs.cloudron.io/backups/#restore-cloudron IF one inside the cloudron, but it wasn't locally is true and you configured something like S3/Minio yada yada.

@hugoo_souza10 yes it is. Just follow the Vultr docs:

You cannot download snapshots and backups directly. By deploying a temporary instance, you may access any data in the snapshot or backup. Downloading data from a snapshot or backup is as simple as mounting the snapshot or backup to a new instance, and then using one of the above methods to recover your files, depending on your OS.

Create a new instance and restore your snapshot to this instance. You should now be able to A: use the server like it was before or B: extract the backup data files and restore them to another fresh installed Cloudron somewhere else. Just make sure to finish the process before the backup gets deleted (166 hours remaining).

Still dont get why your old Vultr VPS got destroyed...

I'll summarize what I've done so far
With the help of a programmer/friend, we opted for the process of extracting the backup data files and restoring them to another Cloudron

We just ran into some problems in the process.
First, when I downloaded this backup data file and we try to restore to the new clouron, it shows some errors, such as:

Captura de Tela 2022-11-07 às 08.46.03.png

Note: I made a new vps with the Snapshot from the old one, this is how I was able to extract the backup file from my old machine.

@hugoo_souza10 don't restore the app you need, restore the Cloudron box file which contains all informations for Cloudron, Dashboard, email and installed apps. If Cloudron is running again, you can restore single apps if not done during the restoration process.

One more thing, since I have already installed a new vps using the snapshot from the old one, when I enter its IP Address, the following message appears:

Captura de Tela 2022-11-07 às 09.07.13.png
Theoretically it is installed, but I don't have access to it

@hugoo_souza10 don't restore the app you need, restore the Cloudron box file which contains all informations for Cloudron, Dashboard, email and installed apps. If Cloudron is running again, you can restore single apps if not done during the restoration process.

@subven Got it, restore the entire cloudron application then, not just the application I want.
One question, how do I locate this file? Could it be this file? /var/backups

@hugoo_souza10 log into the server via SSH. I would recommend to use WinSCP 🙂 You get your SSH logins from your hosters server panel. Browse to /var/backups and download alle folders inside the dir.

@hugoo_souza10 invest in an external backup provider. I would suggest something independent from your actual hoster. You can find suggestions within the drop down list of the backup configuration.
