limited desktop support (only BigTech doc formats)
I never used LanguageTool with Cloudron or last 1-2 yrs but when I used it 3-4 years ago regularly it provided excellent results and there was a LibreOffice plug-in so it's not limited to .docx.

The firefox plugin and Libreoffice integration cover all my needs. My only gripe with LT is that it's resource heavy just to have some grammar fixed (1.8GB RAM and 15.8GB Disk, ouch!).

@timconsidine Are you using a web interface or something? I think it's main purpose is as a headless service, and you use the apps/plugins/addons to use that private instance, as opposed to their public one.
The main and probably only difference being their public free service is character limited, whereas the self-hosted isn't.
I pay for Pro, as I use some of those extras, but maybe this way of looking at it will yield you the utility without the issues?

I don't use the web interface much but use the Firefox extension everyday, works great.

Would be nice if they actually said that
I do a lot of work in the browser, but not Firefox or Chrome
The writing I really need to check is not generated in a browser.
So it's ridiculous to open a browser with a plugin just for the purpose of checking the text. -
@timconsidine Their standalone app works will with LibreOffice and Apple Notes if that helps.

Iām using it in Nextcloud with collabora which works well

I'm using LanguageTools with Obsidian and it work well
