Google's DeepMind (UK) releases latest AI PaLM 2

Has Med-PaLM 2 for medical applications, and Sec-PaLM 2 for analysing suspicious software. It is a platform for specialized versions and likely to stay on Google's servers.

Maybe Bard has not been updated yet but here in UK Wednesday evening, it is still poor (and self-contradictory).
Maybe just a different approach to prompts but currently looks to me like they should can the whole project and save several $billion. -

It is incredible, isn't it? I mean, what were they actually doing, if not doing that? Did it just "not occur to them"? Surrounded by tech-heads in the biggest IT company in silicon valley, and they just missed that? It is farcical.

Doubt they missed it, they just over-thought it, and thought that they controlled the market, so could control the rollout of incremental iteration of their junk-engine and maximise the ad-rev squeeze along the way.
They just don't get that the best thing about Google used to be the simplicity, and what ChatGPT did was give people simplicity back, that was more compelling than the Daily Mail web design they'd moved to.
Tell you what, out of all of this, I'm betting that Meta is going to leap over them all.
Can't say much for their spyware, but they have always generated and released a ton of open-source, and I think Zucker might have finally realised that there's a business model in neutralising all competition (effectively what "public goods" do) with open-source, and focusing on the packaging and delivery.

Good insights there, @marcusquinn. Big Data has had a good run living off advertising. It might be stimulating if governments banned them from making profit off ads, obliging them to find a more helpful way of contributing to society whilst making money. If you try the (excellent) https://you.com chat as a search engine, the ads it provides are actually helpful. One doesn't mind using those links, and they are discreet.
