Signing documents digitally is fast, easy and should be best practice for every document signed worldwide. This is technically quite easy today, but it also introduces a new party to every signature: The signing tool providers. While this is not a problem in itself, it should make us think about how we want these providers of trust to work. Documenso aims to be the world's most trusted document signing tool. This trust is built by empowering you to self-host Documenso and review how it works under the hood. Join us in creating the next generation of open trust infrastructure.

Absolutely! The nearest FOSS alternative I've found is LibreSign in Nextcloud. It mostly works but the interface isn't intuitive.

Amazing how lacking this space has been all these years, but these guys creating seem to have recognised that.

It's only been out a few days, but they seem to have momentum and an appreciation of UX needs. Definitely a valuable area to have solved, as I know 1st-hand that companies resentfully spend a fortune on Docusign for that one feature of signing PDFs.

Good secure local processing alternatives I've also found are Qoppa PDF Studio (there's a one-off reasonable cost, and the free trial is fully functional with a very small removable/ignorable watermark stamp at the bottom) and Xodo (local browser processing for any feature that can be.

Well, PandaDoc is free if you only need PDF signing. But it's a nightmare when it comes to GDPR. That would be my main reason to switch to a self-hosted software.

I'm liking this trend for open-source friends pages for some cross-pollination:

Open source for the win! 💪

We need a "trending" sorting type. This app would be the first I guess 🙂

We have this packaged and it's sort of working - https://git.cloudron.io/cloudron/documenso-app . The initial impression though is that the app, while functional, is a work in progress. Of course, they have written as much in the github page and also a warning that they are working "on a redesign of the application including a revamp of the codebase" .

Perhaps, one of the biggest glaring issue for me is that there is only cert which is shared by the whole setup. The setup also allows anyone to register. This means anyone can sign up and sign with that cert. If you disable registration, there is no other mechanism to add users.

So, promising app, but I think we are very early on this. Let's wait for a stable release. They do say "Note This project is currently under community review and will publish it's first production release soon™."

I had the opportunity to test the first production release of Documenso (v0.9 from two weeks ago). Everything worked perfectly. The GUI looks very much like PandaDoc without any options. Right now, you can only add a date and signature field. The date cannot be formatted. Signatures can be added with mouse / touch or by just typing your name (unfortunately, this cannot be turned off). The feature set is extremely basic, but the project looks very promising. I'd love to have it available in Cloudron as soon as the staff decides it is safe to implement.

You can test the current version at https://sign.adminforge.de
This is a test instance. I've asked the admin if it's OK to share the link here. He is looking for testers that share their feedback (see https://adminforge.de/kontakt/).

Looks good! Do we know how it compares with Docuseal, and therefore on which app should packaging efforts be focused on?

@avatar1024 I would sum it up as follows: Documenso has significantly fewer features at present, but a way more promising GUI.
