Just adding my vote for adding a simple option for basic auth to these apps, and especially Owncast. If anyone figures this out I’m all ears 😊

@RazielKanos right.. we fixed the package to listen on any port πŸ™‚ However, I don't think most clients support them. Maybe we should add a note in the docs about this.

    How Much Data Will Stream?

There is a tool to help you calculate how much bandwidth will be used here:

    https://www.omnicalculator.com/other/streaming-bitrate#upload-speed-for-streaming-live-content

Of course be careful that you don't confuse Mbps (megabits per second) with MBps (MegaBytes per second).

Your Host might distinguish between Ingress (data you send to the Cloudron) and Egress (data sent from your Cloudron to your audience.)

Here is a tough question: What do companies mean when they say they allot you 1TB of bandwidth? If you only stream once a month, for example, and from beginning to end of your recording is 1GB, could you have a maximum of 1024 viewers for your audience?

Or does it mean you could loop the recording and play it 1024 times to as many people as wanted to see it? Or what?

@LoudLemur I think the answer is still to use Peertube, which is much more like "an Immich for videos" than Owncast is.

Owncast is designed specifically for live streams, not for what you are trying to do (if I've understood you correctly).

Note, Peertube also supports livestreaming. But it is specifically designed for uploading and sharing videos that people can watch at anytime.

Have a read of https://docs.joinpeertube.org/use-create-upload-video (that includes details about how to do either a one-off or recurrent/ permanent livestream and gives some examples of streamings using OBS or Jitsi)

@nebulon thanks for your effort anyway.

Just for anyone else, I thought maybe this was an issue with memory allotment making transcoding trip up, but I tried resizing the RAM of my VPS instance as well as the app within Cloudron β€” no dice. Didn't seem to be an issue that was solveable by switching to another encoder preset.

@girish Thanks, so I think you should edit the last line in your original post in this thread to reflect this. http -->https

@LoudLemur If you hit the error page, please post the last few lines of the app logs.

    @imc67 Should be fixed now.

But if you had issue with the logo not changing, that is something caching related and not related to this warning (Afaict). I didn't dig much but it's related to https://github.com/owncast/owncast/issues/1776 or https://github.com/owncast/owncast/issues/1773 . After you upload a logo, go to /app/data/data and it still has the logo.svg . Deleting it + hard refresh in browser makes it immediately load the new logo.

@jdaviescoates said in Make first time set-up instructions clearer:

I think the last line of the set-up instructions should be changed to something like:

Please immediately change the stream key (which is your admin password) in Configuration -> Server Setup.

LOL then that is exactly how I'd got immediately kicked out of my installation, clueless saying WHAT I have not changed the password yet, so why am not begin able to login again, yeah I'd only changed the f.... stream key loll 😊 πŸ‘Ά
