Please suggest a replacement for Nextcloud

Contacts, Calendar, Files = use the cloudron developed apps (contacts, calendar, cubby). Access on android will be through Dav5x that handles syncing with your native android apps.
As for notes, I'm not sure what type of "notes" you're looking to share (status updates, knowledgebase, documents, etc), but there are a few options that I can recommend:
- Outline
- Affine
- Joplin (this is what I use and has desktop/mobile clients; local storage, cloud syncing, plethora of plugins to extend functionality)
- Cryptpad
Edit: You can use Matrix/Element for note taking/sharing as well by making use of spaces/rooms. Encryption is top-notch, has desktop and mobile apps, and works with Cloudron user management.

Have you seen the apps we have built for most of those use-cases? At least calendar, contacts and cubby (for files and sharing) should pretty much match what you asked for.
Calendar and contacts work fine with Android and at least linux clients via caldav and carddav.
For cubby we have an Android app built but that playstore submission is not a trivial feat at the moment. If anything is missing in one of those for you, would be great to get feedback on those in their corresponding forum sections

@nebulon I've looked at cubby, but it seems you guys have taken it in a completely different direction - eg. it's now some form of an AI assistant? cubby.org is no more, cubby.com was mentioned by Google as a new home.
How would I sync files with my Android devices and Linux/windows desktops from cubby that is available in the app store?
-
not sure what those domains/products are but they are not related to the file management app we develop. Since really only Cloudron is supported to install at, it has no separate project site as such yet.
Cubby supports webdav, so it can be integrated in windows and linux filemanagers (though I don't have windows as such to give more details there).
For Android the app is coming, but I guess we can already provide the apk soon even before play store acceptance

@humpty With "notes" I was referring to a note taking app - I don't care for complex apps, I just want a way to take simple notes and have them easily available on mobile + desktop. I've been using Notes app + Nextcloud. But thanks, I'll look at those other apps you've mentioned.
How exactly would I sync files via DavX5? I didn't think it supports that? It supports getting files, but not sync? And for me I really need to update a file on my desktop and see it on my phone. Also sharing with the family (other Cloudron users) is critical.

@nebulon I've just realised https://getcubby.org/ now redirects to https://s42.cloud/ Intriguing!

@jdaviescoates That's exactly what prompted me to look what happened and AI Overview then told me Cloudron team is behind cubby.com and cubby.org was migrated to that.

Hi everyone,
I really need few things:
- Contacts
- Calendar
- Notes
- Files
- Access to all of the above from Android mobile devices, Linux and Windows desktops.
- Ability to share files and calendars between Cloudron users.
I've been using Nextcloud for a long while now. Big reason for me was support for the features plus very active development, which promises quick issue resolution (obviously a double edged sword).
I've been thinking about a replacement every now and then, but never could find apps (well, Cloudron apps) that would satisfy these requirements - contacts and calendar is easy - seems like these are a dime a dozen; security focused file sharing with mobile/desktop access is not so much.
Security is a very high priority, especially for the files part of it. Nextcloud doesn't support end-to-end encryption of files, which was a bit of a concern. With recent PHP issues this becomes a worry.
Would appreciate any advice.
@bazinga have a look at Sync-in (Community App) : https://ca.cloudron.io/app/io.timconsidine.syncin
I think it handles a lot of Nextcloud in a better way.

Would like to add my 2 cents here about this new Cloudron app and thank you a so much great bunch lol as well, this app is absolutely AMAZING!
It runs so well and it's so easy to use just as a snap out of the box, unbelievable! And connected on a dedi with 1Gbps pipe as well as 3Gbps optical fiber here in home-office the wire is getting

In Linux one just need to type server address and change http:// for dav:// in a "file manager" bar, and then connect with user name and pw.
I would bet that it's about the same way to do thing in "Winthing"

Well, it works also perfectly well in a Tablet in a browser as well it's really good as is, at least on a 10" one I haven't tried on a phone yet.
P.S.: I'm also running-testing Mail and Tachyon and also Chat and...

100% agree! At last, an escape from NextCloud the heavy and bloated hard to maintain running correctly suite, between server and plugins updates it's almost nightmarish ...
Alright feel better now

So, with cubby - am I able to change a file on my desktop and get it pushed into the cloud where my Android can access the updated file?
Yes, indeed, through WebDAV protocol using a normal "file manager" window you type the address of your server using davs:// instead of https:// you'll be prompted for your uname and pw and and once you're connected you're in a folder on your desktop just like any other desktop folder.
On a mobile device you can connect through https:// using a web browser and it works pretty well.
Whatever the device you use, your files are still at the same place. They're on your server. Whether you access them from your desktop or your mobile. So unless you think you'd be offline for while, in such case you could literally sync some files on your mobile device, there would be no real reason nor a need to sync files from your server into into your mobile device.

P.S.: Oh and I also endorse Joplin as a note app it's amazing and so powerful. That one has desktop and a mobile app as well and incredible plugins, you can even connect some AI to chat with your notes and documents and even produce content. Enjoy!

@timconsidine Thank you, will take a look. My problem is that I have few family members who are very non-technical and spread around the globe, so getting their devices configured accordingly is a very, very challenging task.

@micmc Thank you. I wonder if I could use something like Cryptomatic with WebDAV in order to E2EE some specific files and access them on mobile and desktop. Will need to look into that.

You're welcome.
I do not know Cryptomatic though in your case then I would take a look at CryptPad maybe this one would work better for you as it has files sharing, collaboration, and E2EE out of the box and very not complicated to use with a very nice webui. -
