xbrowsersync - Secure, anonymous & free browser syncing
-
xBrowserSync is a free and open-source alternative to browser syncing tools offered by companies like Google, Firefox, Opera and others. The project was born out of a concern for the over-reliance on services provided by big tech, who collect as much personal data as they can and have demonstrated that they do not respect their user’s privacy. Now, with the proliferation of open-source code and projects it’s easier than ever to create tools and services that allow users to take back control of their data!

@nebulon this has been on my list for a while, but it currently only supports syncing bookmarks. Which is nice! But I'm really looking for a sync of history and ideally current tabs as well. I was also hoping to replace Firefox Sync with something selfhosted, I'm just not sure it's there yet in the meantime I sync bookmarks through the Nextcloud Bookmarks plugin + Floccus browser extension, and have Firefox Sync running.

Run-Your-Own Firefox Sync Server

@hillside502 yep! That also already exists in the App Wishlist category.

Has anyone looked into this?

xbrowsersync now has its own Docker image, and a Github repo with a Dockerfile and a docker-compose file to smoothly deploy: https://github.com/xbrowsersync/api-docker

I just love Shaarli, which was recommended here and which runs on Cloudron. @timconsidine has some other, even cooler than Shaarli ideas for this sort of thing.
