      Heyas,

I am currently looking for a good as cheap way for my backups and found icedrive. it looks quite amazing and the prices are insane. from what i understand it created a drive on the server that acts as an internal harddrive, but you move all your files into their cloud.

They also support linux, so i was wondering if i might be able to use this for cloudron as well. 150 GB just cost a bit more than 20€ a year or 99 bucks for lifetime.

Unfortunately i am still pretty new to linux, so it would be amazing if some who knows what he/she's doing to have a look on their service, and if its worth using help me setting it up?

Might be an interesting Backupo solution for more than just me 🙂

I think this is more like a dropbox. I cannot find any information about APIs atleast for integration.

They don't seem to have a server (headless) solution.

So it's just for desktops, even on Linux as they only offer an AppImage to do all that is needed (drivers, cloud mount, UI)

Looks interesting, nice to see a UK offering in this area.

            For price-comparison, worth a look at iDrive e2: https://www.idrive.com/e2/pricing

150 GB just cost a bit more than 20€ a year

Contabo Object Storage is a similar price per GB, but the minimum you can order is 250GB (which is £2.79+VAT per month, so £40.20/yr including VAT)

Not S3 Object Storage (but then neither is icedrive, and as @girish and @robi have pointed out icedrive doesn't appear to be an option for servers, at least not yet), but pretty hard to beat Hetzner's Storage Box pricing too: €3.84 including VAT per month for 1TB. I've got a 5TB one for all my backups which are currently €13.08/mo

Scaleway Object Storage Buckets also pretty cheap. 150GB is €2.19/mo (not sure if that is including VAT or not). You can even get 75GB for free if you opt for Single-AZ (Availability Zones) instead of Multi-AZ (whatever that means! Something to do better data replication, I think, but S3 is all new to me so I've no idea really)

I use Cloudron with Gandi & Hetzner

@jdaviescoates About "Hetzner's Storage Box", it seems they are limiting transfer bandwidth in night time: do you have any feedback on this?

What time zone? Is your night time the same as Hetzner's night time?

I think my backups take ages too, but they happen when I'm asleep so I don't really notice and it doesn't bother me.

Have you asked them about it?

Perhaps it just that everyone everywhere is backing up stuff to Hetzner Storage Boxes at night and their networks are actually much busier at night? 🤷

How did you manage that? I have tried to find it in the docs and couldn't see it. I asked idrive support how to connect a Cloudron to their idrive storage and they said:

IDrive is a backup/restore solution where we can only save the backups on IDrive cloud, External drive or network drive. Any other locations cannot be accessed neither can be connected.

@jdaviescoates Same timezone of Hetzner ... very strange. It seems they're limiting bandwidth in night time.

Have you asked them about it?

Perhaps it just that everyone everywhere is backing up stuff to Hetzner Storage Boxes at night and their networks are actually much busier at night? 🤷

Haha! This is so funny! The sys admins using Hetzner think to themselves, I will do the backups at night, when nobody else is using it. They don't think that the only people likely to be using Hetzner are also all sys admins, all thinking to themselves they will backup at night!

                                        This is hilarious! Good insight!

I just signed up for iDrive now, atleast basic backup on Cloudron works with the s3 compatible provider.

How did you manage that? I have tried to find it in the docs and couldn't see it. I asked idrive support how to connect a Cloudron to their idrive storage and they said:

Thank you very much! After you create a bucket, how do you attach it as a volume? in Cloudron?
