How to remove all mail folder?
-
Hi all
As the new (virtual) all mail folder messed up my iOS Mail I am looking for an option to turn it off as it was before. Where can I find such option?
Thanks a lot

„messed up“?

Well.. maybe „messed up suggestions“ would be a better phrase. iOS makes suggestions for actions according folders. Like 1-click-move of a YouTube mail into the YouTube folder, new Amazon mail into Amazon folder and so on. Since I upgraded and the all mail folder appeared, iOS and iPadOS just suggests to move every mail into this folder. Non of the quick actions to move a mail work anymore. I have to dig through my list of folders and pick every folder by hand.

@Stardenver Thanks for the explanation.
Is there no way on iOS clients to unsubscribe from a specific folder? In fact, in Dovecot, the All Mails folder is explicitly unsubscribed. Clients should not show them by default.
I found some similar threads like https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/apple-mail-is-there-any-way-to-unsubscribe-from-imap-folders.1465866/ , https://discussions.apple.com/thread/252297927 and maybe https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/108583/how-to-selectively-unsubscribe-imap-folders-in-10-9-mail-app (desktop). https://www.bluehost.com/help/article/subscribe-imap-folders#apple-device also has something.
Can you check if there is a way to unsubscribe on that folder?

Another thing is that - as usual with Apple - there’s no way to adjust or reset such suggestions. Even without the „all mail“ folder, it was hit & miss. And why would a folder that has been added later override all previously learned suggestions? It’s just stupid.
(BTW, the same goes for login/password suggestions in Safari, even when using Bitwarden - for my Cloudron site, Safari suggests 30 login / password combinations that are out of date. No way to reset that). -

You receive a mail and the mail app is looking up for the folder containing the most mails with the given sender. So in case of Amazon apps there are like two options: The Amazon folder and the all mail folder. As I may have missed a few mails in the past and probably just moved them into the archive, there may be a slightly higher amount of mails in the all mail folder. Also I tend to use folders like "cancellations" or "payments" which may also contain Amazon mails.
The same goes for office mails. The same sender (f.g. boss@work) may end up in folder "Project A" and Project "B", according to its content and topic. But both mails will be found in "all mail". So no matter what, the all mail folder will - due to its nature - always have the biggest and max. possible amount of mails from every given sender and therefor get the highest "rank" from Apple Mail.
At least thats what I assume.
