I think immich has no concept of external "data" directory i.e pick up media from an external location. On Cloudron, data directory has to be ext4 or nfs, so we can support file permissions properly. So, I am not sure if this is possible at all. Maybe @nebulon knows

As @girish said, I am also not aware, that immich supports multiple data directories and those also have to be real mounted filesystems. In the Cloudron context this means, the app would have to be moved to a volume, which supports all required filesystem features like permissions.

So no way to store my pictures / videos on external cifs storage? Ok, then I need a server with more space 😞

For the moment that seems to be the only viable solution unfortunately. We will revisit the possibility to set a cifs mount for the main data location for apps, but I wouldn't count on that.

Is it about multiple data directories?
Or do you just want Cloudron to store everything from that app on a hetzner Storage box?
If so, yes you can do that: https://docs.cloudron.io/volumes/

or am I just confused about what is needed right now here?

@BrutalBirdie I think the issue here is that immich doesn't support multiple directories.

The issue is that only EXT4 and NFS mounts can be used for data directories and it isn't possible to mount Hetzner Storage Boxes like that.

I use Cloudron with Gandi & Hetzner

Are there any providers which offers NFS storage and are not too expensive?

                      Hi all,

I found an hosting service with NFS support, which is mounted successfully on my Cloudron server:

                      image.png

I added it into Immich as Data directory:

                      image.png

Means, all data within this Data directory will be part of my backups, I can exclude it but every "manual" backup takes space from my backup location. I hope to have in very near future some options to set different backup locations for my Apps 🙂

                            Insecure traffic
Please note that NFS traffic is unencrypted and can be tampered. For this reason, you must use NFS mounts only on secure private networks.

@lukas what is the nfs provider you are using? I might also be interested in checking out that option.

For the backup, is there a specific reason why you don't want backups to be made for the content within immich?

I plan to install Immich von our Smartphones to have "backup" of all our photos. Currently I have only 1 TB Hetzner Storage for my backups, so I would like to backup Immich data on separate backup storage.

Maybe off topic: I have cloudron and immich as the only app installed on https://contabo.com/en/storage-vps/. The 400GB is what made me go for it.
I can't vouch yet for reliability or performance, but seems as expected for $5
Backups sent to Backblaze for cheap price too.

Maybe off topic: I have cloudron and immich as the only app installed on https://contabo.com/en/storage-vps/. The 400GB is what made me go for it.

yes a very good idea, but in my case I need around 600GB so with NFS storage I'm cheaper.

Maybe I setup Cloudron on my Intel NUC at Home to run Immich...
