Cloudron as home server, connection to the server

There is already a good blog post about this,
https://blog.cloudron.io/installing-cloudron-on-a-home-server/
There is indeed! By the way, that blog could be updated to suggest installing Noble Numbat (24.04 Ubuntu LTS) rather than Ubuntu Bionic (18.04 x64), @girish

I have added some additional docs here - https://docs.cloudron.io/installation/home-server/

yes, we will support this once it is released which I think is April 25, 2024

Maybe we can add something about importance of the router in such a setup - it’s the central device that decides on the security, and the ease-of-use of such a setup.
For example, my router, natively, supports WireGuard. Therefore, I don’t expose my SSH connections to the Internet. Instead, if I really need to SSH into my server outside of my home, I first connect via WireGuard and then work “locally”. -

Do you have any suggestions on routers or a list which you created during your research?

I don't have an extensive list but mostly in Germany there is Fritz!Box which has wireguard support in the latest versions.

LibreCMC has merged with LibreWRT. It is firmware which RYF (Respects Your Freedom). The supported hardware is here:
https://gogs.librecmc.org/libreCMC/libreCMC/wiki/Supported_Hardware
This is the most recent hardware on that list I think:
https://www.tp-link.com/us/home-networking/wifi-router/tl-wr1043nd/OpenWRT has a table of hardware supported:
https://openwrt.org/toh/startI don't think either of these mention Wireguard.

Claude AI has the following to say about Asus routers and Wireguard.
Based on checking Asus's current WiFi router lineup, here are some of their models that support WireGuard VPN natively:
RT-AX86U
RT-AX88U
RT-AX92U
RT-AX55
RT-AX58U
RT-AX3000
RT-AX86S
RT-AX68U
RT-AX82U
GT-AX11000
RT-AX89X
RT-AX56U
RT-AX86U (Aimesh)
Many of these are their newer and higher-end gaming/WiFi 6 routers. Asus seems to have added native WireGuard support starting with their 2020/2021 generation of routers and ongoing into their newer models. The product pages for these routers specifically mention WireGuard support or compatibility. So these models should have WireGuard available in their stock firmware from Asus.
Other Asus router models not on this list may still support WireGuard via custom firmware like OpenWRT, but WireGuard is natively included on the routers listed above. Asus seems to be actively expanding WireGuard support across more of their lineup over time.
