    Hi all,

just thinking about a "dedicated" Server from Hetzner and my question is, if SSD disks are neede to run Cloudron? I use Matrix / Synapnse, Immich, PaperlessNGX, Outline, Nextcloud, Navidrome, Open WebUI ans Synchting.

Need more space because I store all media from my and my familys Smartphone via Immich on Cloudron. Can you guys hare you experience with me?

    Thank you and regards
    Lukas

I wouldn't say SSD disks are needed.

They are just much faster (and I think also break less often too, given they have no moving parts).

But for extra storage you could always add at Storage Box too if need be. BTW, don't do what I did and assume 2 x 512GB SSD in RAID 1 means you'll get 2 x 512GB of actual storage. The RAID 1 bit means that one drive is just a mirror of the other (so that if either breaks, nothing actually breaks), so you only get 512GB.

BTW, unlike quite a few other providers Hetzner dedicated servers are actually dedicated - you get full use of a physical machine.

I use Cloudron with Gandi & Hetzner

I've bought a storage VPS from Servarica, https://clients.servarica.com/store/black-friday-2023, a Polar Bear deal. Then I mount it as an external Volume. Several apps on my Cloudron then use that for all the data.

My affiliate link (but of course you don't need to use it): https://clients.servarica.com/aff.php?aff=855

I would love to have a dedicated power horse as a server for my cloudron. But the option to simple restore my cloud server from just an image backup in case of desaster is so much more important. So I decided to stay with my smaller cloud server and use a storagebox for more storage.

How you mounted the Volume, also useable for Immich?

Yes, exactly. They make it quite easy to buy one and mount it to your server.

Other qurstion to @girish @nebulon : Hetzner also offers dedicated servers with "software" RAID1, can Cloudron handle it ?

Ah, yeah, I think you might be right.

I just had a look and the storage box tab on my dedicated server and it says:

To get space for depositing your server's backups please order a Storage Box which will be linked to this server.
