Sponsoring finishing this with @murgero
Solid alternative to Xero.
Please also consider sending some coins/sheets his way if this has value to you. It all helps.
-
@marcusquinn The author of Akaunthing has already sort of packaged it. He tried to work with us, but we got busy. I have pinged him a couple of times but he hasn't responded. We can try to ask him again if this is a good time.
@denisdulici would this be a good time for us to get akaunting published?
-
@girish Cool. @murgero hasn't started this yet. Looking at Live Helper Chat first.
Happy to send a few dollars where it needs to be if that helps @denisdulici

Most people seem to use Xero. I actually use Free Agent which is also good.
Can Akaunting directly connect to bank account to suck transactions in? (ideally using the new UK standard for doing that Open Banking)
-
@jdaviescoates Sure, I use Xero & Quickfile. You can use Xero as a bridge as well - so connect with bank accounts using that, mirror transactions to Odoo or Akaunting. Then, if you want to close an entity, you have an archive of accounting without having to pay Xero until the sun engulfs us all.
-
@jdaviescoates Think I miss-read - no, it just has some standard file format importers - but anything repeatable is automateable with browser automations.
We're in ecommerce and automate the shit out of everything with hundreds and thousands of transactions a day - but the first think I look at in any app is always the data-structure- if that's solid, the rest gets a lot easier.
-
@marcusquinn so, I think you mean "no, Akaunting doesn't actually do that by itself yet", right? Shame. Perhaps I'll file a feature request ticket...
-
@jdaviescoates I seem to remember it's a common request in their community but I wouldn't hold my breath - if you want that, Odoo is better.
Akaunting for me is just going to be a way to archive Xero accounts - but I can see others here using it where Odoo is too much going on and Invoice Ninja is too limited. I think they all round off this area nicely.

Cool that they at least do it, but I just checked on their site and it seems they don't do UK banks
Think I'll just stick to Free Agent for now
-
@jdaviescoates Yeah, accounts migrations are a PITA - but if you ever need to, I have a brilliant bookkeeping co in India that makes it look easy

I went to try and do that... on GitHub it says to add feature requests on their Forum... so I registered on their forum... but then got 500 Oops something went wrong error whenever I tried to create a post
I've Tweeted at Odoo asking if they've any plans to integrate Open Banking with Odoo Akaunting too
-
@jdaviescoates I have a feeling this might be an Enterprise-only feature:
But the community often has comparable addons:

Yeah, it's on that page where I searched for various UK banks in there supported banks search box and didn't find any of them.

Don't see any that automatically import transactions from banks.
-
@jdaviescoates Honestly, having been through this research a few times over the years, Xero tends to have the most integrations.
The simplest thing to do is just use Xero as a bridge since most apps have a Xero data-sync.
I get the desire but it's reinventing wheels in any other apps with fewer resources for that sort of thing.
The other best bridge I know is TillerHQ to GSheets to whatever through Integromat or similar.
-
@jdaviescoates Not FOSS but TillerHQ is adding Open Banking connections:
-
@marcusquinn ta, I already use Free Agent which does it too. Maybe one day a self-hosted FOSS app will do so, until then, I'll just stay where I am as it works nicely
-
Would be a great app to have! I'm not sure I understand this threads though. Are you asking for sponsoring in terms of money? Is this to @marcusquinn and @murgero ? If so what target are you aiming at, what is the minimum amount and how do we do it?
Also do you know how far along this is / idea of time-scale for release so I can try to convince a few people to support this too -
I'm pretty sure what is happening is that @marcusquinn is financially sponsoring @murgero to package this app, but is inviting others who'd also like to see Akaunting packaged to donate money to @murgero too.
-
@jdaviescoates I see, thanks for enlightening me! And thanks to @marcusquinn for support this and to @murgero for doing it! I'd also be happy to support this and will talk about it with some colleagues too.
