Suggest this be changed to say something about "Polls for Updates Automatically" --> as this section in the app doesn't automatically update the app, just that it checks to see if an update is available.... or does it?

If automatic updates is enabled here, then it does both check for new updates and, based on the configured update schedule for the whole system also performs the update.

This is a bit confusing for me too.

Quite often when I login to my Cloudron dashboard I see that app have updates available and so I run them...

@nebulon are you saying that if I just waited they would automatically update without any further intervention on my part? (I have daily platform and app updated enabled in settings). I'd certainly prefer that!

Although, I guess even if the updates would auto update, I guess that wouldn't happen for stopped apps that need updating? or would it?

I use Cloudron with Gandi & Hetzner

    @jdaviescoates

    • automatic updates do not happen for stopped apps
    • automatic updates do not happen for major app update (like when nextcloud updates from one major version to the next)

Other than that, yeah, the app updates should happen every night or so without any action on your part.

    To add:

    • Updates are checked for everyday. There is no way to disable the update checker
    • If an update is available, it will show update is available. There is no way to disable this either.
    • You can disable apps from automatically updating. This is what the "Disable automatic updates" button does.

@girish said in UX Change for App Automatic Updates:

Updates are checked for everyday. There is no way to disable the update checker

I think this sounds a bit contradictory.

If "Updates are checked for everyday", then why would the text on the page read "If you disable automatic updates, be sure to manually check for updates."?

Why would we need to manually check for updates if checks are done everyday anyways and we have no way to actually disable that check? Have I misunderstood?

I guess "checking for updates" here is twofold, one is the actual triggering of the update checker and the other is to look for available updates in the dashboard manually if automatic update is disable. The latter essentially is the admin logging into the dashboard and seeing that an update is available for manually updating.

I changed this a bit to "Cloudron periodically checks the App Store for updates. If you disable automatic updates, be sure to manually apply the updates."
