Storj Node

I think it would be nice to be able to share some unused storage space and earn some
-
@cyberfreakde How much could one get paid monthly by temporarily donating unused space? I have 4 TB of unused space I could settle for a few bones a month (even if just to cover the cost of my server for example)
-
@murgero hi yall, storj miner here. Great solution, works just fine. I'm currently sharing about 5TB out of an allotted 8TB and earn about $10/mo. Packaging this for Cloudron would certainly be interesting. It's obviously a Docker container, but would feel "weird" in the context of cloudron. I don't see any major gotchas on doing it - there is even a web interface to show stats that you could throw behind the new auth addon.
-
@murgero I think it's not suitable for temporary storage. You have to build up your node reputation which could take 1 or 2 months. Earning depends on how much the user downloads. You get per TB $1.5/mo for storage. Egress if user downloads 1 TB = $20.

@doodlemania2 I was just thinking what to do with unused Cloudron server storage. This seems to be a wonderful idea. But I have no idea about app packaging.
-
@cyberfreakde yeah for sure - it could be done. Does require 10months+ of continual usage to get full rewards.

+1 for Storj Node!
Having decentralized hosting capabilities has been one of my desired use case for Cloudron
Another potential project is : https://edge.network/en/ (I will make a new post for it)
https://edge.network/en/contribute/add-a-node/
Currently have 4 nodes on the network - its still being bootstrapped but has about 650 nodesWould love for this to happen

@plusone-nick Well, then throw down for Loki (Oxen) too! (I am considering becoming a node on there).
-
@doodlemania2 good-lookin, I will check it out =]
-
@girish I was able to get it up and running about a year ago on a simple Ubuntu 18 VPS. It needed the entire disk (for storage). I don't recall the RAM usage or anything, but I get most of my boxes from lowendbox, so I don't imagine it was too intensive. I even earned some STORJ from it, but in the end I didn't have enough space. Suffice to say, installing (outside of Docker) was quite simple. If there is already a Dockerized install option, then I guess it would continue to be easy.
-
I know this is an old thread, but I came cross Storj outside of the forum again and curious if anyone has been using it and if anyone has any thoughts, feedback (on usage), and or any issues? My use case would probably be personal storage and usage for Cloudron backups.

Long time hoster of storj storage. The economics don't make much sense for hosters - it's a pittance compared to what is provided. Benefits the person using it cause the price is low, but the risk is that there is more storage node churn as a result of it not making the hoster any money (in fact, costs more to run it than gets paid for it). That said, it's pretty stable from an end user perspective.
-
@doodlemania2 Awesome, thank you! I will take another look at it from the end-user side. I did look at some of the recent forum posts and such, I got that "vibe" that being a SNO doesn't seem to make as much sense as it used to in the past.

Please lead the way on this! Your experience on Storj would be invaluable.
