Subdomain mail server setup sanity check
-
Just seeing if what I'm thinking of will have any CLoudron gotchyas where it might not be an expected setup.
I need to setup a mailbox doe
catchall@subdomain.domain.com. In the first instance I'll be usingcatchall@crm.domain.com.Now, there's a site on
crm.domain.com, but that's A-record stuff, so I don't think related.I'm thinking of an MX record name
crmand valuemy.domain.com. So:- Will Cloudron pick up emails to
catchall@crm.domain.comthen? - Do I then need to add a Domain in Cloudron for
crm.domain.comto then be able to create a Mailbox and Aliases, and - Will that cause any clashes if I already have a site at
crm.domain.comtoo?
Just thought to check with the experience of others before I pulled the trigger into my own foot with a tired brain.

I will answer this first. Yes, you have to go to Domains and add
crm.domain.com. Then, go to the Email view and Enabling incoming email. Only when you do this will the mail server start accepting mails for the domaincrm.domain.com.Will Cloudron pick up emails to catchall@crm.domain.com then?
Yes. After enabling incoming email, you can manage mailboxes/aliases/catch-all in the Email view just like any other domain.
Will that cause any clashes if I already have a site at crm.domain.com too?
No, that's fine. As you already figured out, the mail stuff relies on MX records (for incoming email) whereas websites rely on A/CNAME records.
Finally, after you enable the incoming email, go to Email -> Domain -. Status tab. There it will suggest other DNS records to setup like DKIM etc.

@girish Cool, thank you kindly. It's just for incoming mail to those addresses for the time being, but I may add auto-responders from them as well at some point.
For interest, I'm setting up all sorts of automations in EspoCRM, so tasks@domain.com will create a Task record and auto-reply to confirm it's been created. Doing similar for other data objects to.
