Your installation of WordPress prompts for FTP credentials to perform updates. (Your site is performing updates over FTP due to file ownership. Talk to your hosting company.)

i've installed the WP webapp with cloudron , SO what went wrong and how to fix it ?

it's the only security issue with WP.

I find this odd, because CR is supposed to update everything without the need to provide FTP credentials. I haven't seen that for years, even outside of CR this is not required anymore.

Well, have you tried to provide FTP credentials to see what happens, and will it require it again on a next update?

@sixer I guess you installed the WordPress Managed app? If this is the case, you cannot perform WP updates on it. This is by design. The code is read only and when you try to update it WordPress shows this strange FTP error.

If you want to manage and update the WP installation yourself, use the WordPress Developer app. Please see https://docs.cloudron.io/apps/wordpress-developer/

@sixer My understanding is that Wordfence will scan plugins/themes etc for malware etc. This is quite application specific and outside what Cloudron can do (since we allow users to install whatever plugins they want even in Managed WordPress). So maybe you can install wordfence, shouldn't be a problem.

@girish I'm not exactly sure, but I think I had issues with the Managed version playing nicely with Wordfence.

I use Cloudron with Gandi & Hetzner

@sixer I'd personally recommend using the WordPress Developer Cloudron App instead

@onlybro I guess we need some app logs for this to further understand the issue. Not sure why wordpress needs FTP credentials as such.

@nebulon in the past I had this issue with various plugins that are not compatible with the non-developer version of the WordPress app.

Really, I don't think the non-developer version of the app should exist. It just causes hassle for users and staff alike because it doesn't function like WordPress does in virtually ever other environment.
