      Hi all

As I am pretty happy with Cloudron, I am considering moving my mails from Google Workspace to my Cloudron Instance. Before doing this, I would like to hear about your experiences with it. I did run my own mailservers before, but actually I was using rspamd instead and it fells like I am a bit less in control when it comes to mail-handling in Cloudron.

Are you happy with how the mail server works? What about spam? Any problems? I do have a few domains and some of them are pretty old and therefor I am always getting a few spam mails. In general I receive like 30-50 mails per day and another 20-30 spam mails. At least thats the amount of spam ending up in my spam folder. Don't know about bounced spam mails.

Can some of you guys share your experience with Cloudron as a main mail-server?

      Thanks all

@Stardenver it works well. It's uses Haraka under the hood with SpamAssassin. You may have to train SA for your specific spam types, but there's a good thread here on the forum where someone optimized the rules for it.

rspamd is something being looked at as an upgrade/addon, but there have been no commitments.

I've not had any email issues that weren't caused by me forgetting to check the blacklist status of the IP address of a new server. That was a bit painful as suddenly my emails were getting rejected, but solved it in the end but jumping through the various hoops spamlist people make you jump through (and I wont make that mistake again - if I ever need to move server again, I'll check the health of the IP address first and if it isn't good will either request another from the host, or do the work to get it off spam blacklists before migrating)

the Cloudron mail configuration respect all the necessary security stuff DKIM, DMARC, SPF and does it automatically for you.

While if the Mail Server is fine to receive; to send, you will more relay on the reputation of your IP and neighbourhood; and even by marking perfect with this kind of test which are very legitimate and well seen. You will still might have an issue to send email to people/company who are using the big one like Google Mail, Microsoft, ...

The thing is Google will suggest you to register your domain with their Postmaster services while Microsoft will simply ignore you (I'm might not being update on that part).

To bypass this issue; again Cloudron do well, you could rely on a relay but then again you don't really control who see your email passing in clear on their server.

Because yes the SSL and TLS are only for the transmission; between server.

I've found that using https://sender.office.com/ and requesting access to your IP on Microsoft's Smart Network Data Service https://sendersupport.olc.protection.outlook.com/snds/ and signing up to their Junk Mail Reporting Program https://sendersupport.olc.protection.outlook.com/snds/JMRP.aspx helps with Microsoft.

may i ask for a small setup about 5 accounts
what hardware may needed for the mail server (for Cloudron requires at least 1GB RAM, 20GB Disk space.) cpu, ram, disk space ?

@herculist2022 I would say Haraka with SpamAssassin have a minimal footprint; 1 GiB is more than enough if you have few users (10-20) with a normal send and receiving email (20-50 emails per day per person)

Guess its because this tool was used as a testing tool for newsletter senders. AFAIK its recommended to provide your spam (just kidding^^) in two versions (plain text and html).
