    Hi,

I have a domain, let's say it's about the dish "Döner" - I took both domains:

    donnerdöner.de
    donnerdoener.de

The domain with the "oe" could be added easily, the domain with "ö" cannot be added.
    I get the error message

    Invalid domain

DNS provider shall be Hetzner - the domain already exists on their side, also NS is working fine.

What can I do here to get the domain with "ö" running?

    Best
    Jay

Domains with such characters have to be entered with punicode. In your case this would be xn--donnerdner-kcb.de There are converters like https://xnode.org/page/Punicode_Converter available

I guess we should add conversion automatically, so maybe you could create a feature request for this?

Thanks for the hint. I was now able to add the domain and also created a feature request:

          I use this https://www.punycoder.com/
Somehow you bought an IDN but never noticed that it is listed sa donnerdöner.de? You should read up more on IDN @jayonrails, it's quite interesting. Even using the punycode version there are sometimes limitations, depending on the software. But it's pretty cool, isn't it!

Special characters are entered with ALT codes, such as Alt-3333 for ♣.

@robi I think that's a Windows thing maybe? Maybe Mac too.. Atleast on linux, it doesn't work.

I would only register a domain with an Umlaut if I had also registered the same domain without (as in this case Döner and Doener). Besides the keyboard issue, a lot of people don't realise that these are two different domains (because oe is just an alternative form of ö) or don't even know that ä, ö, ü can now be used in URLs.

Right, each OS is a bit different, even among window managers. Option key for Macs and Linux has a few options:
Linux - Unicode: one of three methods should work:

                    • Hold Ctrl+⇧ Shift and type U followed by up to eight hex digits (on main keyboard or numpad). Then release Ctrl+⇧ Shift.
                    • Hold Ctrl+⇧ Shift+U and type up to eight hex digits, then release Ctrl+⇧ Shift+U.
                    • Type Ctrl+⇧ Shift+U, then type up to eight hex digits, then type ↵ Enter.

                    See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Entering_special_characters

The thing with the "Döner" was just a joke and an example for a domain name with the Umlaut "ö" in it. I thought it would be more understandable than lame duck examples.
