Hey guys,
We're currently packaging Akaunting for Cloudron so stay tuned
Regards

Thanks for helping us out @denisdulici ! The work is happening here - https://git.cloudron.io/cloudron/akaunting-app/
-
I look forward to seeing that app!

@nebulon I tried a bunch of Accounting software and Akaunting was in my top 5 but Invoice Ninja and Kimai2 are better and already in Cloudron. You will use Akaunting or it's just to add another apps ?
It does seem to me (just looking at the website) that Akunting does more that Invoice ninja and Kimai in terms of managing your overall finance whereas the others are more specifically about managing invoices / time-keeping / Projects, is that right?

Naked Akunting don't really do more than Invoice Ninja, probably less
Almost every addons https://akaunting.com/apps have a price. -
Akaunting looks worthwhile as an alternative to Xero (with a migration tool) or Quickfile.
Can't see automated Bank & Card statement importing though unless anyone knows otherwise?
Xero as a bridge could but that's purchasing the plugin and maintaining a Xero subscription.
Odoo Accounting or ERPNext the best FOSS I know of for interest, so I'd still have those higher up the Wishlist TBH.

Sadly these kinds of automation are mainly oriented US base Bank, and this even with paid and close source software such as Zoho Invoice.

@JOduMonT IMHO the US banks are far behind the EU & UK for Open Banking (and the fun n games with chip n pin).
Although I do like having a stash go $2 notes when I'm over
Some links for fun reading:
https://www.openbanking.org.uk
https://plaid.com
https://www.yodlee.com/financial-products/api-apps-dataTBH I wouldn't reinvent wheels and just use https://xero.com for it's integrations and https://integromat.com APIness.
I loath robotic chores, so always try to workflow anything like that even if it's via files to a dropbox or email.
While we're here, big fan of https://transferwise.com for international banking, worth a look for anyone interested in something with an API and decent service.

Thatβs because the EU is by now quite effective and much more effective than most people give it credit for: Online Banking - inter alia - is subject to the (revised) Payment Directive (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Payment_Services_Directive).

Free Agent also automatically imports most stuff using Open Banking (although I've still had to use a tiresome process of converting PDF statements to CSV in order to get older data that Open Banking doesn't suck in)
-
@jdaviescoates Tabular helps me with that if you're not already aware of it: https://forum.cloudron.io/topic/2814/tabula-extracts-table-data-from-pdfs-wen-copy-paste-often-doesn-t?_=1594815634825

Dead link; status seems unknown. Have you got an update on the old effort and/or would a new pass be more useful?
-
-
Is there anyone still working on this? Or is there any update of some kind? Would be great to have it on the app store

@marcusquinn big for Wise (formerly TransferWise)
More cost-effective than the big 4 for international transfers (and seems faster in my experience)
Nice API for batch payments, e.g. upload payroll for staff
Nice users can get a little bonus with a referral code from current users (e.g. @marcusquinn or myself)Ref Akaunting, I haven't been able to check if it is adequate for UK users, e.g. HMRC drive towards 'Making Tax Digital', most notably submission of VAT returns. If Akaunting does support this, then it's interesting, otherwise (for me anyway) it doesn't work well.

I've not double checked, but I doubt you can submit anything anywhere with Akaunting, just keep track of and prepare figures.
Similarly, I don't think Akaunting (nor any other open source web accounting software I'm aware of) will automatically import bank feeds etc either (I don't mind submitting my own accounts and tax returns, but I can't live without automatically importing transactions!)
I use FreeAgent (10% off a subscription with that link) which works very well for my circumstances.
Lots of people seem to use Xero too.
-
@jdaviescoates I'm using FreeAgent too - free if you are with Natwest !
Very happy with Quickfile too - written by / for accountants, but good for business too.
I like Hledger also ... but it's quite hard-core - accounting with text files ! And of course no VAT submission options.
Taxcalc is great for CoHouse/HMRC submissions : not cheap, but top notch. Written for accountants so really good (if you know what you're doing !)
Shame about Akaunting but if FreeAgent start charging me, I might give it a go.

Natwest
Allow me to suggest divesting from banks that still fund fossil fuel projects
NatWest has been lending to some very questionable fossil fuel friends.
And it's not just a little here and there, weβre talking about $13 billion in the 5 years since 197 countries agreed to drastically reduce their greenhouse gas emissions in the Paris Agreement.
See
https://bank.green/banks/natwestI recommended Starling Bank for business banking and Nationwide for personal banking

@jdaviescoates yes, it is on my plan
