Hetzner now offering some useful pre-built "Apps" for server instances.
-
Big Blue Button and Jitsi Meet might be of interest if they aren't coming to Cloudron any time soon.
-
Just to add, these packages are also open sourced by Hetzner here:
https://github.com/hetznercloud/apps/tree/main/apps/hetzner
And also that @BrutalBirdie (who maintains the official Ansible role for BBB) has warned against using the Heztner BigBlueButton app:
@brutalbirdie said in BigBlueButton - web conferencing system for on-line learning:
@jdaviescoates but its bad, really bad! - And Outdated! 2.3.0 < 2.3.10
I maintain the official Ansible role for BBB and stay in close contact to at least 25 Admins from universities in Germany.
They basically uniformly agreed that the Hetzner BBB app is unusable for any real work with BBB.The Ansible Role:

@jdaviescoates This is one of the problems with pre-built apps provided as packages for server platforms, and I have encountered this with other companies as well. If providers are not willing to ensure that these packages are kept up-to-date, then the benefit for the customers is minimal and sooner or later they are going to run into difficulties. It would therefore be interesting to know how easy it is to bring the pre-installed Hetzner versions up to the current versions and also generally what their policy is on keeping these packages updated.

@marcusquinn I created a ticket on Hetzner a couple of hours ago with the following information....
Hetzner now offering some useful pre-built "Apps" for server instances.
https://forum.cloudron.io/topic/5544/hetzner-now-offering-some-useful-pre-built-apps-for-server-instancesCloudron.io is “the bees knees” https://www.ecenglish.com/learnenglish/lessons/idiom-day-the-bees-knees#:~:text=When you refer to something,are a number of theories.
DigitalOcean and Vultr offer one-click install https://www.cloudron.io/get.html. Why not Hetzner?

@marcusquinn Trying to persuade engineers (and artists) to focus less on engineering (and art) and more on marketing is a constant struggle for me. Engineers and artists invariably create stuff they like yet tend to overlook the actual needs of the customers whom their creations purportedly serve.
Put simply: Hetzner's VPSes are relatively cheap yet (apparently) good. Ensuring one-click Cloudron exists on Hetzner VPS is a "non-trivial" marketing issue, although it is an irrelevant engineering issue.

@yeku Yeah, I see that — the role that is often needed in between is a "Product Designer" or "Product Manager", effectively that's my day-job role.
Everyone's busy, so an amount the job is reminders and re-prioritising to free up capacity by lowering competing priorities.
I couldn't have worded the request to them any better, so we can live in hope that they will see how valuable Cloudron customers are to them.

@marcusquinn We'll see what happens.
