Project Management Software Comparison: OpenProject vs Taiga vs Redmine vs Gitlab vs WeKan vs NextCloud Deck vs Vikunja vs EspoCRM

@marcusquinn Will do! I have added some of the other ideas too, but have run out of hashtags!

This is Gantt for NextCloud. https://www.inmotionhosting.com/support/website/nextcloud-gantt-chart/

I am the person who has tried all project management and kanban tools in Cloudron for at least a few weeks. Me an my project manager had to pick one for the team. I may sound too opinionated but Taiga is the best PM tool out there. Blazing fast, lots of features and stable, while being simple for beginners to get used to. Nothing else compares. We recently moved to Jira feom Taiga and miss the simplicity and speed. Feature-wise Taiga is no less than Jira.

Given what you've written, why on Earth did you do that?

Great, and thanks! This is just the sort of experience I was hoping to hear. Stuff like this encourages people to give something a try, in this case, Taiga.
Why did you prefer Taiga to OpenProject?
-
@jdaviescoates Good question! I am curious to hear the answer to that, too.
-
Why we moved?
Because the PM was used to Jira, and insisted we needed mobile apps and real-time push notification for task updates! Nobody likes Jira and push notifications. We regret switching, but it's now too hard to switch back to Taiga. Why not OpenProject?
Because of their pricing which is in fact cheaper than Jira now, but you know.. everyone is now on Jira. Why not Gitlab?
Because we use Gitea. Gitlab randomly crashed and needed too much memory to run. Also we failed to migrate hundreds of repos from Gitea to Gitlab, so there's no point of using Gitlab only for project management. -
@nj Fair enough, we've been slowly moving from GitLab to Gitea + Drone. I hear you on push notifications & mobile apps, we live without them, happily
Funny how so many of these apps rely on that one noisy person that insists that their app is best, and it being easier to burn a business than migrate tools. Data and process lock-in is my nemesis.
-
@marcusquinn Applications ought to be designed to protect the user's attention. Most social-media appliactions do quite the reverse. Perhaps this is the case with Project Management tools, too.
-
@LoudLemur They often end up becoming more entertainment tools for management, because those are the internal influencers charged with squeezing as much as possible the doers.
One day I'll write agile project management. I've build the essence of it into EspoCRM in every area, and it works amazingly well for almost zero staff training. Simplicity take extreme determination though, as people naturally feel complexity justifies ongoing work.
You hit the nail on the head though, the vast majority of project management is removing distractions, and stopping people from distracting themselves with the unnecessary. I see the most brilliant people can become the worst at it too.

Even other people's phone (e.g. my wife's, we're both remote workers who mostly work from home - she likes them though ) notifications really annoy me!
-
@jdaviescoates Productivity hack: change your phone accessibility settings to greyscale. Much less alluring to keep checking it.
-
@marcusquinn I have pretty much all my notifications completely turned off, but yeah, that's a good tip
It's the pinging and vibrating my wife's does all the time that gets me. I don't understand how it doesn't drive her mad too! But she doesn't understand how I can tolerate so much mess either, so there you are!
