Best domain provider for Cloudron for a server with non-static IP?
-
@necrevistonnezr
noip.com
dyn.comJust to name a couple.
-
@necrevistonnezr yep! hosting my cloudron from home, never seen disruption. Also a friend in jolly ole england is doing the same with similar results.
-
@necrevistonnezr Digital ocean can hold your DNS for you. You can even use their API to update DNS records when needed.
-
+1 for https://gandi.net
-
@necrevistonnezr You can use any of Cloudron supported DNS providers - cloudflare, gandi, etc. Have you seen https://cloudron.io/documentation/networking/#dynamic-dns ? Once you enable that option, Cloudron will automatically detect IP change and update your DNS. I use DigitalOcean DNS for my Cloudron which is hosted at home and dynamic DNS.

@necrevistonnezr said in Best domain provider for Cloudron for a server with non-static IP?:
Namecheap
While I experienced for few years hosting docker at home with 3-5 top domains and 30-50 subdomain, I was using ddclient.
I don't know if they finally upgraded they API but few months ago (+/-18) they NameCheap API was painful and not always making the update. This is how I discovered Cloudflare. If you are not too concern about your privacy Cloudflare works very great.

Thanks for the tips - actually, here's a pretty good tutorial on Namecheap / ddclient: https://samhobbs.co.uk/2015/01/dynamic-dns-ddclient-raspberry-pi-and-ubuntu

@necrevistonnezr said in Best domain provider for Cloudron for a server with non-static IP?:Namecheap offers dynamic DNS update but requires an API key which you only get depositing USD 50 and whitelisting a specifig server IP - which in my case is not static...
-
@necrevistonnezr Imagine a company offering DYNAMIC DNS THAT REQUIRES A STATIC IP ADDRESS

Namecheap offers dynamic DNS update but requires an API key
For the DynDNS, Namecheap provide a password by domain
But yes Cloudron use the API
maybe you could run https://github.com/linuxserver/docker-ddclient
