For "shared" mailboxes (like sales@, partner@), we have setup Group Email.
Interesting.
Is this instead of or in addition to using FreeScout for this sort of thing?

@jdaviescoates Some mailboxes like info@, support@, security@ are on FreeScout. For the others like sales@, partner@, where we want to store contact information, preserve history, track meeting info etc, goes via EspoCRM.
Not sure about @nebulon but I use our Rainloop installation pretty much only for configuring filters. Thunderbird is my main mail client.

any specific configuration to receive email in ESPOCRM? i tried but inbox was not retrieving any emails.

Nope it was not default in order to either feth emails or send mass emails and for some notifications you have to create a cron job
