At least they stopped removing features.

The fork looks like it might be a bit stale:

Probably time to look at Minio alternatives:

Whats the implication of that on its cloudron app ?

@AartJansen Looks like they now fully and openly abandoned the open source model which means users will likely have to migrate to other solutions.

As far as I understand, Seaweed's OSS policy is as follows: 'Free if less than 25 TB.' No licence needed. No hidden fees. No complex tiers.' And thats a downer.

In my opinion, Ceph makes much more sense when used in combination with the right hardware. I think this might be too much for a proper Minio replacement. I assume that many people just use an 'S3 compatible' setup and not a multi-node setup. Considering the Cloudron context, I don't think Ceph is the right choice.

Well, the development of RustFS is proceeding quite quickly (https://github.com/rustfs/rustfs/releases), but there is still no major version. It has the 'rust is better' vibe, but they also address typical deployments directly (single node, single disk, etc.). I'm testing it in other contexts and I like it, but I won't trust it until it has at least reached major version status.

GarageHQ has been around for a while and supports multi-node and single-node deployments. It has a nice Docker deployment and in there documentation is a good read for comparing S3 alternatives: https://garagehq.deuxfleurs.fr/documentation/reference-manual/s3-compatibility/.

I did some explorations in packaging Garage, and I suspect the need for object storage on Coudron with the fading of Minio is on the core team's radar:

              • https://forum.cloudron.io/topic/14689/garage-packaging-status-next-steps

Like timka said, I didn't poke RustFS for reliabiliy/newness reasons, and was reasonably pleased that Garage fit a similar niche/seems to fit the Cloudron model (self-hosting/limited-scale hosting).

              I use Cloudron on a DXP2800 NAS w/ 8TB in ZFS RAID1

Time to poke RustFS too. No fear.

RustFS is available as unstable now. Looks quite good as a MinIO replacement. But the app itself is in alpha

This is fascinating! https://github.com/orgs/rustfs/discussions/2213 I wonder if we could simply swap it out in the dockerfile?

                      @doodlemania2 pretty neat!

I've also posted elsewhere a minio fork that's a dropin replacement with more features to boot.
