@micmc this account you questioned, ticked a few spammy boxes, so I banned and purged the content for the moment.

In addition to my day job as a web developer for a startup, I also run a small business out of my home that does bespoke programming and web hosting for various clients.

I am a developer and manage a small team of devs focusing on streaming video solutions. We use open source tools and libraries in our own software and with clients and, especially, enjoy trying to use open source tools for our own internal collaboration and Cloudron helps with this.

              @BenjiFranklin ๐Ÿ‘‹
Question for the pro: in https://forum.cloudron.io/topic/6643/video-streaming-for-cloudron we have discussed various possible solutions for streaming apps on Cloudron. My experience with Peertube shows me a 24 second delay in the stream. What is your expectation of time and do you prefer one of these apps?

Thanks for inclusion on this and directing me to this post! We actually mostly use Cloudron just for internal communication tools and then we work with some of the big, commercial streaming services as their service arm and do client integration work for them. Streaming is tough because it's so much more resource intensive and most self-hosters want to be able to get away with a $6/m cloud server instance. That said, some of these tools I haven't spent time with but you've encouraged me so perhaps will spend some time this weekend kicking the tires and report back!

I'm a UX Designer too, so I share your curiosity about the backgrounds of Cloudron users. A simple survey sounds like a great idea to gather insights and see if there are commonalities among us.

Apologies for the maybe pointed question - but as a UX Designer I'm curious about the backgrounds of Cloudron users.

I'm interested in knowing people's jobs/professions/what they spend most of their day doing.

I'm interested if people are mostly "infrastructure profession users" (sysadmins, devops), "developer/programming users", not-technical users (gross over-simplified term, no insult meant), scientists, academic, or someone like me ux designer/graphic/visual designers (somewhere in between the technical and non-technical user).

My reasoning for asking is to see if there are similarities between people here and UX designers I meet and work with who say "oh I can't be bothered/don't have the skills to move away from Google/Office265/Dropbox".

I was thinking of creating a simple survey. Would there be any objections?

@ei8fdb I work at Cowchain.io, where we're focused on developing Web3 solutions. I think your idea for a survey is really interestingโ€”it would be great to see what kind of users are using Cloudron and their different backgrounds. Itโ€™s always a challenge for those of us in tech to break free from the big tools, but getting a better understanding of user motivations could be a key part of the conversation. Here's a link to our company if you're curious: Cowchain.io.

@ei8fdb No need to apologize โ€” itโ€™s a great question, and totally valid from a UX perspective!

I think you'll find that Cloudron users come from a wide range of backgrounds. Personally, Iโ€™d say I fall into the [insert your background here, e.g., developer/sysadmin/UX designer/etc.] category. But Iโ€™ve seen people here who are devs, sysadmins, small business owners, educators, and even non-technical users who just want more control over their data.

Whatโ€™s great about Cloudron is that it really lowers the barrier to self-hosting, so you donโ€™t have to be a hardcore DevOps person to use it. Thatโ€™s probably why it appeals to people like you โ€” UX designers โ€” who want a balance between control and simplicity.

As for the survey โ€” sounds like a great idea to me! I donโ€™t see why anyone would object, especially if itโ€™s short and anonymous. Could actually give the community some really interesting insights.

Happy to help if you want feedback on the survey questions too.

We're a development team focused on helping clients build applications and solutions in the freedom tech / Bitcoin / Nostr space - https://nostrdev.com

We don't use Amazon, Facebook, Microsoft, or Google - and Cloudron is fantastic for this. It's also a really good option for hosting our client projects - we can just deploy them as containers, with their own URLs, no need to spin up / pay for additional machines.

We're contributing back - current submissions include:

                          • Bitcoin Core
                          • BTCPay server

                          Upcoming contributions include:

                          • Strfry (Nostr) relay
                          • Blossom (file) server
                          • SIGit - for secure and private document signing . https://sigit.io
                          • Trackstr - self hosted time tracker, an alternative to other "activity trackers" such asHubstaff or Trackabi. DM for details, we are looking for testers.

Our wish - that the Cloudron team would accept payment in Bitcoin. Maybe now they have their own payment gateway, they will reconsider ๐Ÿ™‚
