I can assure you, there was not a lot of market or brand research happening for Cloudron. I guess I never expected it to be in use for so long, actually. Somehow it stuck with us. As far as I remember, as a non-native speaker I quite liked the term cauldron back then. So together with "Cloud", some container where you blend apps together to your own liking.

Cloudtron is definitely most common. I think CloudIron and Cloudrun are second.

Could you build a few pages into the main Cloudron website with Cloudtron, Cloudrun as the main words? Have these automatically redirect to the main Cloudron landing page?

I love Cloudron, but my initial reaction to the name choice was not particularly positive, as "being in the cloud" was what I didn't want. Self-hostable was more in my mind. Having a name end in "ron" was a bit kind of cheesy, I thought too, somewhat outdated, like "a-doo-ron-ron-ron, a doo-ron-ron" era, and old fashioned, 1950s way of making something sound like it it was a computer. AI now is good at generating names for products, or roleplay characters, by the way.

The Cloudron.io domain I actually do like for a couple of reasons. I believe the .io country domain helps the people of the Indian Ocean islands gain some revenue. I also think .io is still cool, with the input/output vibe and it has come to denote that it is a more modern organization than one of those .com companies that all went bust in the naughties.

Here are some quick AI names just as an example:

      LibreHost
      OpenSphere
      FreePort
      SelfStart
      OpenHarbor
      IndependentCore
      FreedomHub
      OSSphere
      UnchainedCloud
      BoundlessOS
      OpenHaven
      EmancipatedApps
      AutonoMesh
      SovereignStack
      UnlockedOrbit
      DetachedCloud
      UnfetteredOS
      UnconstrainedCore
      SelfPoweredHub
      IndependentNexus

      SkyUnbound
      HorizonHub
      NebulaSphere
      StarLinkCore
      NovaNode
      CosmosCloud
      GalaxyGate
      OrionOS
      PolarisNexus
      AuroraCore
      CometHost
      SupernovaHub
      GravityGrid
      HyperDrive
      WarpPlatform
      ZeroPoint
      SingularityStack
      GenesisEngine
      TerraNova
      OdysseusOS

@LoudLemur .io is controversial, specifically because the people of the Indian Ocean don't get the income.

I didn't know that. Thanks! I thought that some brilliant person had conceived the idea and that the Indian Ocean Islands government would receive a cut of the money from the use of their country domain. But you say that this is not happening? What a rip off that is! Also, those .io fees are quite hefty, and now it transpires that the islanders are not benefitting...

        Thanks for letting us know!

That is super interesting to know. It's good to see how the name came to be.

If you ever started branding open source apps (like that French co does), -ron might work well:
          Ackeeron
          Bookstackron
          Chatwootron
          Cubbyron
          Gogsron
          Jellyron
          Jitsiron
          Minioron
          Radicaleon
          Surferron
          Umamiron
          Wordron

          I'm kidding, thisissoron.

            @scooke LOL
@LoudLemur it is highly recommended to verify if those suggested domain names are truly available, because it might not be the case. Unless, you've prompted your AI to verify their availability as well.

Here's some free market research and honest-initial-reaction feedback

                LibreHost - is it French?
                OpenSphere -
FreePort - Wasn't there Mac software called like, some kind of CLI? Oh yeah, macports. too much conflict
SelfStart - not really "self" since the Cloudron team made it, and the Forum here adds lots of help
OpenHarbor - sounds like a place criminals go to
                IndependentCore - I don't need anyone else
                FreedomHub - political?
                OSSphere - last breath
                UnchainedCloud - melody
                BoundlessOS - not jumpy?
OpenHaven - another place for the criminals
                EmancipatedApps - for minority folks
                AutonoMesh - car-centric
SovereignStack - gonna steal my money somehow
UnlockedOrbit - wasn't there some weird gadget or something with Orbit in its name?
                DetachedCloud - "I don't care-Cloud"
UnfetteredOS - so, you're calling me fettered?
UnconstrainedCore - where's the toilet please?
SelfPoweredHub - Gonna need a bicycle to power my internet
IndependentNexus - one-punch to the gut

SkyUnbound - great, now I have Sky all over me
HorizonHub - I can see it, but will I ever reach it?
                NebulaSphere - its purple
StarLinkCore - Is Elon connected to this?
                NovaNode -
                CosmosCloud - that's a BIG cloud
GalaxyGate - Kurt Russel is the spokesperson
                OrionOS - Onions
                PolarisNexus - A cold stomach
AuroraCore - how I feel after eating spicy hot pot
CometHost - will this destroy the planet?
SupernovaHub - reminds of that productivity app from years ago that DID NOT MAKE ME PRODUCTIVE
GravityGrid - I just can't get anything off the ground
                HyperDrive -
WarpPlatform - licence? licence? who needs a licence?
ZeroPoint - just give up. there's no point
SingularityStack - great, it just took over my brain
                GenesisEngine - religious
                TerraNova - sic-fi religious
OdysseusOS - going on along journey with many hazards

Off all of these, only OpenSphere and NovaNode did not evoke some immediate (not entirely positive) response. And truthfully, I wrote this in just a few minutes, pure initial-reaction style.
