I already envision Cloudron becoming the 'bridge' between the actual and the New Internet if that gets implemented on the platform.

What I've found quite interesting and cool is the scripting language is amazingly easy to understand and learn. Much more easy than the PERL scripting in which most of the 'apps' were created with in the first years of the Conquer of the Internet. For instance, at that time apps were called PERL scripts or simply scripts. Still they were Open Source and extremely powerful even just before the beginning of the 21st century.

Discovering this reminds much of how the Internet was cool and free because people who were getting on it were cool because they had more freedom to express themselves using freely the most cutting edge technology that's freely available. While it sounded somewhat a 'good thing' to bring the world together with social media, imho I strongly believe that web 2.0 has killed the Internet of the people for the people.

Apparently, it would be time for the people to pull out the GUN 😁

@LoudLemur By "not self-hostable" I mean the sync service. This is the cloudron forum, in this context I don't really care that it's an open source and cross platform local application -- that's great, but it doesn't help me run the cloud-dependent bits myself.

If I self hosted my own Data Syncing service, where would I put that address in the app?:

@LoudLemur You can already use it by pointing your Cloudron to it.

You should be able to install this easily in the LAMP App and try it out.

Packaging it will need modding the Apache config for mod_xsend

It feels like we got really close to get this package for Cloudron and so would be nice for it not to get dropped.

Doesn't seem sustainable to have the @staff fork it and maintain the app themselves. Unless its been forked and maintained elsewhere I don't see this going anywhere tbh.

@Neiluj very valid points! +1 for Piwigo as well.

I scoured through their documentation to see what is written about data privacy. They do say that no data is sent over in a couple of places and their intention is not to make money but provide a platform for private use, etc. The AI is also done on the device as far as I understand. You are right, I don't think the code itself is opensource though.

This app is really feature rich. However, my first preference is Photoprism as well. May be others can add their views here...
