I dont see the absolute need of AI for tagging really, it's so personal and can be achieved without AI, without losing accuracy. Wallabag does it with their tag engine. Cheaper and more accurate and ecological so than any AI.
AI makes also the results very random and unpredictable in terms of quality and makes such apps very dependent on something else. Why not local models?

In other news, Hoarder are being attacked by patent trolls https://www.reddit.com/r/selfhosted/comments/1i29pi1/hoarder_the_name_is_being_stolen_from_me/

I use Cloudron with Gandi & Hetzner

@robi My point was the need to use OpenAI was a negative.

            @scooke I know. 😉

Not all AI services are paid was my point.

I’ve been testing this app on PikaPods, and I immediately fell in love with it. It’s super easy to use, and the variety of things you can do is amazing. It’s basically an ‘app hoarder’ you can store bookmarks, take notes, save images and quotes, and even archive stuff via HTML or screenshots. Plus, you can create lists and track everything with RSS feeds, making it a damn useful all-in-one solution. If I could host it on my own Cloudron environment, it would definitely be my main go-to.

              Example:
I wanted to use a smart list that automatically includes anything tagged with music, but smart lists don’t allow wildcards or partial tag matching. To solve this, I added a custom AI prompt to ensure music-related content is always tagged correctly:

If the content is about music (songs, artists, albums, concerts, or playlists), always add the tag "music".
If it's specifically a music video, also add "music video".
Include relevant genres like "rock", "pop", or "jazz" when identifiable.
              Do not tag unrelated content.
Ensure all tags are in English.

And voilà problem solved! Now, my smart list works exactly as I wanted, making the app even more powerful for organizing content.

I have also tested it on Pikapods right now, and I can say it's better than the current alternatives on Cloudron. I would even suggest that the current apps that do something similar on Cloudron could be discontinued to support this, which seems to be by far better.

@scooke You don't need Open AI or any AI to tag. It's just optional.

it has changed its name to (I assume) deal with the patent issues

@robi Yes! Or use a service with an "OpenAI compatible" API, e.g. https://gab.ai

In any case, please add me to this growing list of "we want Karakeep" people. Thank you to @jagan too for so wholeheartedly recommending this application.

I remember when somebody got me onto Shaarli! I was delighted. Then @timeconsidine tuned me onto Linkwarden, which was a bit more advanced. Hearing @jagan raving about how it helps tidy up your notes, well, I just want to try this.

I hope we support it soon.
